Picking Up An Alpha On Garbage Star - Chapter 32.1
Wrapped in the rich scent of alpha pheromones, Pei An slept well. Other than the fact that the pheromones on him, belonging to Xie Yu, were so strong that even a whole bottle of blocking spray couldn’t completely cover it, there were no other issues.
Before Pei An woke up, Xie Yu had already returned to the command room. After freshening up and changing into casual clothes, he came back, took Pei An to the dining room for breakfast.
“I’ve already had Lika handle the person from yesterday. Do you want to know the details?” Xie Yu didn’t boast about his actions but instead openly stated how he dealt with Zuo Jiwen, leaving the choice to Pei An.
“There’s nothing worth hearing. It’s unpleasant.” Pei An had no interest in hearing about someone he considered seriously ill.
“Okay, then let’s just have breakfast and not discuss anything else.” Xie Yu had already sent someone to clean the dining room, ensuring no lingering pheromones remained.
The military only provided three meals a day for officers. The soldiers below had to rely on nutrient supplements. The Empire’s finance department allocated minimal funds to the military, unwilling to support such expenses. However, Xie Yu never mistreated his soldiers. They were free to bring all sorts of food into their dorms, and he wouldn’t even count it as a violation of military rules. In other military units, such behavior might lead to criticism and education.
Not only did Xie Yu not consider this behavior a violation, but he also deducted some money from the military budget to purchase supplies, such as canned food, distributed to each person. During long journeys in space, many ingredients couldn’t be preserved, but canned food could last for one or two years.
“After breakfast, I’ll take you to the Liao Yuan, of course, only you.” Pei An wasn’t open enough to invite a bunch of people to witness his vulnerability.
Xie Yu’s steps paused. “Liao Yuan?”
Pei An’s organization seemed much stronger than he had imagined.
Pei An replied, “Liao Yuan is the Goddess of Light, the name I gave it.”
The glory of the Goddess of Light had long been submerged fourteen years ago. Now there was only the Liao Yuan.
Xie Yu said, “You chose a good name.”
Pei An tilted his head. “Xie Yu, do you think there’s nothing wrong with me?”
Xie Yu showed a puzzled expression. “Isn’t that beyond doubt?”
Pei An opened his mouth but didn’t say anything. He didn’t know what to say to match Xie Yu’s words.
During breakfast, Lika, Pang Li, and the others were also present, conveniently gathered together. Xie Yu took the opportunity to brief them on their tasks.
“I’m going out with Pei An for a while. In my absence, Lika will handle my work. If there’s anything difficult to resolve, discuss it among the four of you. If none of you can solve it, then contact me.”
Lika leaned over mischievously. “Commander, are you going to make a formal visit?”
Cough, cough, cough… Pei An was shocked by Lika’s astonishing linguistic talents.
Xie Yu rubbed his forehead. “Lika, if your language skills are lacking, find a teacher to get some lessons. Don’t embarrass your former language teachers when you come out.”
Zhu Ge Yue laughed mockingly. “Commander, with Lika’s proficiency in language, not even a master of classical Chinese can save her.”
Lika waved her chopsticks at Zhu Ge Yue. “Shut up!”
Zhu Ge Yue smirked and twisted his neck a few times.
“No formal visit. Xie Yu is just accompanying me to pay respects to some elders.” Pei An explained quietly.
Ye Xiuzhe glanced thoughtfully at Pei An. Paying respects implied that the elders were already deceased.
Lika’s expression became vivid. If Pei An wasn’t sitting here, she would definitely be pulling Xie Yu aside to get to the bottom of this, confirming the love story between Commander and Mr. Pei.
Pei An returned to the Liao Yuan in the same fighter jet they took to arrive. Xie Yu piloted, and Pei An sat in the co-pilot seat, acting as a passive observer.
The 286th Legion had the 258th Legion to handle, so the Liao Yuan hadn’t been deployed. It was still stationed on the planet where Xiao Xue and the others were stationed.
This planet was much farther from the star of the Moran Galaxy than DS009, exceeding the suitable temperature conditions for human settlement. The temperature was very low, even on the zero-degree latitude circle, the highest temperature reached only seventeen or eighteen degrees, and the lowest was below freezing.
As this planet was not suitable for ordinary human habitation, and no one would bother with such a planet, Pei An established a massive base on this planet. The Liao Yuan, along with the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise, were all present on this planet. The base was divided into zones, including areas for military training and a large section of laboratories, much larger than the base on DS009.
Pei An had sent a message to Xiao Xue and the others during the journey, ensuring that the defense system would allow them entry. Therefore, Xie Yu piloted the fighter jet into the atmosphere without being attacked by the defense system, smoothly landing it on the airstrip.
“The temperature is relatively low. Are you cold?” Xie Yu, concerned about Pei An’s attire, immediately inquired about his well-being as they experienced the temperature of this planet, which was lower than that of DS009.
Pei An shook his head. “Not really, and we won’t be staying outdoors for long.”
Their destination was only the Liao Yuan. Xiao Xue and Yan Yue, both wearing white coats, had received the message about the fighter jet’s landing and came from the laboratory to the airstrip.
“Pei An, long time no see.” Xiao Xue opened her arms and hugged Pei An.
Pei An smiled in response. “Isn’t this disturbing your intimate space with Yan Yue?”
Xiao Xue retorted, “Cut the sarcasm.” There wasn’t much private space between her and Yan Yue.
“Not sarcasm. Let me introduce you.” Pei An looked at Xie Yu. “This is Major General Xie Yu, the overall commander of the 3rd Corps, 258th Legion.”
Major General Xie Yu instantly sensed that Pei An had a special relationship with these two individuals and felt an inexplicable sense of tension.
“Hello.” Major General Xie Yu greeted politely.
Xiao Xue spoke first, “Hello, Major General Xie Yu. I’m Xiao Xue.”
Yan Yue was much colder in his greeting, stating only his name, “Yan Yue,” without showing any dislike, just an indifferent tone. He was reserved and not warm towards anyone other than Xiao Xue.
“Take Major General Xie Yu around slowly. If you need anything, call me or Yan Yue.” Xiao Xue teased, winking at Pei An.
Pei An was helpless. “Is your gaze the only thing that works?”
“Don’t be shy. I’m just helping.” She pushed Pei An towards Xie Yu. “Major General Xie Yu, feel free to explore with Pei An. We’ll get going with Yan Yue for now.”
Pei An unexpectedly found himself being pushed closer to Xie Yu. Compared to sitting together in the fighter jet with Xie Yu piloting, the distance between them was now even closer. They could even smell each other’s unique pheromones.
“Uh, let’s go,” Pei An quickly stepped back, taking several steps forward, as if escaping from something.
Xie Yu touched his ear, feeling a bit overheated in the temperature of around ten degrees Celsius.
The Liao Yuan was docked at the base, but there were always people inside. Daily inspections and maintenance were carried out, and these people were familiar with Pei An. Upon seeing him, they would stop, stand still, and greet him. Along the way, amidst greetings like “Hello, boss,” “Brother Pei, long time no see,” Pei An led Xie Yu into the living area of the Liao Yuan.
Xie Yu couldn’t help but ask, “Do your subordinates always address you like this?”
“In daily life, we’re informal. They all address me like this. Only during serious work do they call me ‘leader’ respectfully.” Pei An stopped in front of a door, entering a password, verifying fingerprints, and finally undergoing facial recognition.
After three processes, the door opened, revealing a room that was initially pitch-black but automatically lit up as lights turned on.
“Come in,” Pei An invited, stepping inside.
After Xie Yu followed, the door closed automatically. No one could enter this room unless they passed the three verification processes again.
The room was large and spacious, with three walls covered with electronic photos. Thousands of photos filled all three walls, each with a name, identity, and age at the time of death.
Pei An activated the control screen, entered his father’s name, and the image of Pei Ruyu was projected onto the screen, which was around twenty inches in size.
“This is my OMEGA father, Pei Ruyu.”
The person in the electronic photo still had a youthful appearance, wearing a silk shirt with a white coat on top. A cute cat-shaped clip was attached to the pocket of the white coat.
Pei An and Pei Ruyu were indeed quite similar. Whether it was the eyebrows, eyes, nose, lips, or face shape, they were almost identical. However, Pei Ruyu was a pure intellectual with a scholarly air, which was more pronounced than Pei An’s. Pei An, having emerged from a pile of dead bodies, had long lost the temperament of a scholar.
Pei Ruyu, as the son of a distinguished family, lived up to his name. A man like jade, unparalleled in the world. Pei Ruyu was truly worthy of this name.
People like jade, with a noble character.
Pei An was originally a second-generation child from an excellent family. His grandparents’ generation were scientists, and he had been raised by a group of big shots in the scientific research field. Naturally intelligent and eager to learn, he skipped a grade and entered university at the age of sixteen. If it weren’t for his young age, he could have skipped a few more grades and entered university earlier.
Without a doubt, Pei An went to the military after college and, upon graduating with excellent results, entered the research institute to work on weapon development. However, not long after he started working, the world was hit by a zombie virus outbreak. The virus spread rapidly, engulfing numerous cities in its wake. Pei An followed the military, leaving the capital and heading towards a southern base.
As the capital fell, it was no longer suitable for establishing a base to shelter humans. The only option was to migrate southward. The military escorted older scientists and crucial equipment on military transport planes to the southern base, while Pei An and others had to travel by land.
