Picking Up An Alpha On Garbage Star - Chapter 46
Pei An could never forget the day the zombie outbreak occurred. The bustling human world turned into hell, filled with the screams of zombies everywhere. He was rescued by the military. He was originally in the laboratory, and when the zombie outbreak happened, he ran outside with his colleagues to seek support. Although he grew up in the military compound, he had some skills, but his colleagues did not. He watched helplessly as the zombies grabbed his colleagues’ limbs and opened their bloodthirsty mouths.
Even though he was lucky enough to follow the military, heading south all the way to the base, and even awakened his abilities, becoming a stalwart force against the zombies, the shadow left by the zombies had never dissipated.
He detested viruses from the bottom of his heart, detested all research that violated human conventions for selfish gain.
Seeing that black skull today, memories long buried in Pei An’s mind rushed back, and his face turned pale. Holding onto Xie Yu’s coat and feeling the faint pheromones, Pei An slowly calmed himself down.
Now was not the time for a sudden virus outbreak. As long as the spaceship remained sealed and under control, nothing would happen, regardless of how the biochemical weapons on the ship were experimented or whether they were rats or something else.
During the end of ancient Earth, the planet’s ecological environment was on the brink of collapse. Before Earth completely collapsed, people embarked on a great migration, fleeing from Earth and heading deeper into the universe. After the turmoil that lasted for more than two centuries, humans finally rebuilt their nations.
During the more than two hundred years of turmoil and the fifty years since the establishment of the Lyte Empire, biochemical weapons had never appeared.
Today, the biochemical weapons carried on the intercepted spaceship seemed to have stirred up waves like a stone thrown into water, breaking the peace of the Lyte Empire for fifty years.
Xie Yu immediately issued a strict order, instructing Pang Li to closely guard the spaceship. All locations on the ship storing biochemical weapons were heavily guarded, and a key was installed, with the password known only to Pang Li. Anyone attempting to enter the room storing biochemical weapons would be executed on the spot without permission.
Almost every two steps inside the ship, there was a heavily armed guard. Outside the ship were four escort ships, protecting the ship from all four directions. Even a fragment of a meteorite passing by would be checked to see if it was just a simple meteorite fragment.
“How many survivors are left from the interstellar pirates on the ship?” Xie Yu asked in a low voice.
Pang Li replied, “Most of them have been killed, only a few are still alive in the cockpit.”
“Keep an eye on them and take them to Zhuge Yue. See if we can get anything out of them,” Xie Yu commanded. He had to command the battle against Dragon Port and couldn’t spare time to deal with these interstellar pirates transporting biochemical weapons.
After giving the order to Pang Li, Xie Yu contacted Zhuge Yue. “I’ll have Pang Li send all the captured interstellar pirates to you. No matter what method you use, you must pry open their mouths in the shortest possible time and get whatever information you can.”
Zhuge Yue also understood the seriousness of the situation. She left the bridge directly and went to the interrogation room to prepare in advance. “Commander, rest assured, I will complete the mission.”
The progress of the bomb disposal team was satisfactory. They had already dismantled a safe passage that could be safely traversed without alarming the defense system. The bomb disposal team had completed their task and were regrouping.
Due to the presence of biochemical weapons, the previously relaxed infiltration mission became tense, and everyone tightened their strings.
For them, what was more important was that they could die, but the biochemical weapons absolutely could not be used by the interstellar pirates. In the event of the interstellar pirates becoming desperate, it was highly likely that they would resort to using the biochemical weapons to massacre the captured civilians on the ground, or even record it and broadcast it on the star network, declaring war on the empire.
If it came to that, as the overall commander, Xie Yu would be held accountable by the military. The military would have to provide an explanation to the people. Not all people could imagine the variability and cruelty of war; they would only see Xie Yu’s inadequate command leading to the persecution of civilians.
This battle against Dragon Port was one of the rare difficult moments for Xie Yu.
“Xie Yu, how long will it take for the message to reach the military headquarters?” Pei An tilted his head up. “If it takes too long, can you directly handle the biochemical weapons on that spaceship?”
Pei An was really afraid of the night bringing more dreams, and he wished he could dispose of all the biochemical weapons on the spaceship right now.
“We are too far from the central star. It will take several transfers for the message to reach the military headquarters. It will take at least six hours to get the message back,” Xie Yu said as he walked over and held Pei An’s hand, which was chillingly cold.
Xie Yu wrapped Pei An’s hand in his own palm. “Why are your hands so cold?”
Pei An forced a smile. “It’s okay. I can oversee the capture of Dragon Port.”
He just recalled the distant past, remembered the swarming zombies and the nauseating stench, and resting a bit would help him recover.
“Mr. Pei, there are fever patches in the medical room. Would you like to try putting two on your hands?” The communicator looked worriedly at Pei An, whose face was as white as a sheet of paper.
“Thank you, but I really don’t need them,” Pei An nodded. “Just let the command team warm me up.”
The communicator thought about it. An alpha’s body temperature was high, so it would definitely work, and there was no need to worry about the fever patches being too hot and scalding someone.
For convenience, Xie Yu stood beside the chair where Pei An was sitting, warming Pei An’s hands while keeping a close eye on the screen.
“Commander, the infiltration team has successfully crossed the defense system and is heading towards Dragon Port,” the communicator reported.
“Good. Tell them to disperse upon entering the atmosphere, find a landing spot, and hide the small ships and fighters,” Xie Yu instructed.
“Understood.” The command was relayed to everyone’s neural implants through a special channel.
The blue dots on the screen represented their own people infiltrating Dragon Port, while the solid red circles represented Dragon Port, and the outer ring with a gap represented Dragon Port’s defense system.
“They are entering the atmosphere and confirming the safety of the surrounding environment.”
“Decelerating for landing.”
Pei An tightened his grip on Xie Yu’s hand, leaned forward with his back straight, and watched as the blue dots slowly entered the red circle.
“All personnel have safely landed and are scanning the surrounding environment.”
“The surrounding environment is confirmed to be safe. Opening the hatch.”
Watching as everyone landed safely, Pei An breathed a sigh of relief, and his tense back relaxed.
If it were just a normal infiltration mission, he wouldn’t be so worried. In fact, he could even chat casually with Xie Yu, holding a cup of coffee, looking relaxed. It’s just the appearance of the biological weapons that disturbed his thoughts, always making him wonder if the interstellar pirates had more malicious weapons to use against everyone, making him nervous to the point of sweating palms.
Xie Yu wiped Pei An’s hands with a handkerchief. “Look, everything is going smoothly.”
Pei An leaned back in the chair, closing his eyes. “Yes, very smoothly.”
With his eyes closed, Pei An waited for Xie Yu to finish wiping his hands. Then he opened his eyes and watched the real-time footage sent back by the team, observing the situation on the ground.
As they advanced, the team dispersed, pushing forward while searching for their two objectives. At the same time, on the Moonlight, six interstellar pirates who had been taken to the interrogation room were tied up.
“I’m not one for small talk, nor do I like to get rough. If you’re willing to cooperate, that’s best. If not, I’ll reluctantly play with you,” Zhuge Yue waved her hand, and soldiers began to bind the interstellar pirates with interrogation machines.
“Tell me, where were you planning to transport the cargo on the ship you were piloting?”
If the interstellar pirates confessed after being questioned by Zhuge Yue, then they wouldn’t be the notoriously brutal interstellar pirates. However, all six refused to cooperate.
“You’re interesting, lady. Trying to scare us with empty words,” the leader of the interstellar pirates sneered. “Do you really think we’ll talk?”
Zhuge Yue cracked her knuckles. “I never expected you to cooperate willingly, so I’ve prepared a little gift for you.”
She waved her hand. “Let’s begin, one by one. Someone has sent back a video.”
On the screen, a hastily recorded video was played. The perspective showed a cluster of low, shabby buildings guarded by armed interstellar pirates. There were also machine guns mounted at the checkpoint, their firepower overlapping to prevent anyone from entering directly.
The camera followed the person filming as they maneuvered through narrow alleyways and onto the roof, where they could see a glimpse of the interior. It was clear that these buildings were not for the interstellar pirates but for the ragged workers who were forced to produce goods there. These workers had been subjected to long-term abuse by the interstellar pirates and were all emaciated.
The movements of the workers were also monitored by the interstellar pirates. If any worker stopped, they would be approached and pushed, loudly scolded, and urged to continue working, even if their arms were broken, legs fractured, or wounds gaping.
Perhaps feeling too indignant at the scene inside, the person filming suddenly shook the camera, and it seemed like they pounded the roof beneath them with their left hand, accompanied by a muffled groan.
“We have to find a way to rescue these workers,” Pei An said hoarsely.
“We must, but we can’t act recklessly for now. We need to find out how many more places like this there are in Dragon Port and locate the biochemical weapons. We must avoid them during the firefight,” Xie Yu reassured Pei An. “Nothing will happen, trust me.”
Pei An nodded. “Xie Yu, I’ve always trusted you.”
Returning Xie Yu’s coat to him, Pei An stood up. “I’ll go out for a bit. You keep watch.”
Xie Yu’s gaze followed Pei An until he walked out of the bridge and disappeared from sight.
Pei An felt uneasy inside, but perhaps it was good to let him go out and relax.
Having known Pei An for a long time, Xie Yu came to understand that despite Pei An’s expertise in designing warships and weapons, he had never truly participated in modern warfare. After leading the survivors of the Bright Goddess into the Moraine Galaxy, he rarely left the galaxy, even though he had many forces outside of it that he entrusted to trusted individuals.
This was one of the rare occasions in many years that Pei An had ventured outside the Moraine Galaxy, and upon leaving it, he was met with scenes like this.
“Connect me to all the infiltration teams,” he ordered.
The communications officer immediately adjusted the communication channel.
“Everyone is connected. They’ve been divided into groups based on proximity to different areas. Half of them will search for the storage location of the biochemical weapons, and the other half will search for the interstellar pirates’ place where they’re holding the workers captive. Once found, they are to standby. If needed, the command ship will issue a rescue mission.”
Xie Yu’s instructions reached all the infiltration team members, and everyone moved quickly, forming groups according to Xie Yu’s orders and regrouping swiftly.
On the Liao Yuan, Pei An left the command ship and headed for the hangar, where he entered the cockpit of a Star-02.
With the highest level of authorization on the Liao Yuan, Pei An could quietly take off with the Star-02. He was going to make a trip to the Dragon Port.
Pei An hadn’t used his psychic ability for a long time. The last time he used it was when he went to rescue Xie Yu, using his psychic power as a scanner. Psychic scanning was only a superficial ability. This time, he had to use his abilities for real.
He didn’t like killing. Every time he killed zombies before, he would always try to take a shower afterward, or else he would feel unclean all over. It would probably take him a long time to wash off the disgusting smell today.
If Xie Yu found out that he had quietly left without saying a word, he would probably be furious. But he couldn’t inform Xie Yu, or else Xie Yu would probably team up with everyone else to keep him trapped on the Liao Yuan, resolutely refusing to let him take this risk.
Pei An pushed aside the loose hair on his forehead, put on his helmet, fastened his seatbelt, and started the Star-02, heading towards the direction of the Dragon Port.
Watching the footage coming back from the front, Xie Yu’s anger surged. The workers were already injured and feverish, but they were still being forced by the interstellar pirates to stand up and work. Otherwise, they would be kicked and scolded.
Sure enough, the Empire had underestimated these interstellar pirates. In the darkest corners where most couldn’t see, these interstellar pirates were abusing the Empire’s citizens.
At this moment, a communication signal not belonging to the Third Legion abruptly intruded into the communication channel.
“Commander, this is the communication number of the Seventh Legion,” the communications officer reported.
“Accept,” Xie Yu said coldly.
The communication from the Seventh Legion was connected, and a gloating voice came through: “Xie Yu, you’re finished. You’ve been absent from your patrol area for a long time, and the military department orders you to return to the Central Star for investigation.”
Xie Yu erupted in anger. “Investigation my ass! Get lost!”
The other party didn’t expect to have walked right into a confrontation, but regardless of Xie Yu’s reasons, they certainly didn’t appreciate being shouted at.
“Why the hell are you yelling at me, Xie Yu? Ordering you to return to the military department for investigation was a decision made by the Council. If you have the guts, go vent your anger at the Council!”
“After I’ve taken care of these bastards, I’ll go back to the Central Star to chat with those old farts. You don’t need to worry about it. Communications officer, cut them off!”
Knowing that the Seventh Legion was no different from the Fifth Legion, he still held some hope for the Seventh Legion, hoping that they had come for a legitimate reason and not just to be confrontational in so many signal areas.
The people on the bridge were momentarily startled by Xie Yu’s outburst. Some of them were Pei An’s people, who had only seen Xie Yu being gentle and considerate towards Pei An. Where had they ever seen Xie Yu lose his temper? Even Xie Yu’s own people were taken aback. Their commander was a high-level alpha, prone to bouts of anger, as alphas were often characterized by traits of predation, conquest, and aggression. However, Xie Yu had always restrained himself well and never acted like this before.
“Commander?” the communications officer cautiously called out.
Xie Yu waved his hand, returning to his calm and polite demeanor in less than half a minute. He never expected that the message he sent back, reporting such a serious problem, would not be resolved by the Council, but they would come to clean up the mess instead. Without the Council’s consent, the military department couldn’t mobilize troops on a large scale, or else they’d be labeled as rebels. After dealing with these interstellar pirates, he would return to the Central Star and reason with the Council.
“Commander, the ground teams have searched the entire Dragon Port base. There are a total of three locations where workers are being held for forced labor, but the biochemical weapons have not been found yet.”
Xie Yu responded, “Have them prepare to rescue the workers first. Those tasked with finding the biochemical weapons should continue their search.”
Biochemical weapons couldn’t be openly displayed, even in a base controlled by interstellar pirates.Â
“Why hasn’t Pei An returned yet?” Xie Yu glanced at the time again, feeling uneasy as Pei An had been away from the bridge for quite some time.
He immediately dialed Pei An’s communication number, but after three rings, Pei An answered.
“Pei An, where are you?”
Pei An had already passed through the gap in the defense system and was nearing the Dragon Port base.
“Xie Yu, after today, you will know me again,” Pei An said, then ended the communication, piloting the fighter jet into the atmosphere.
Xie Yu’s heart sank. “Immediately check the number of fighters on the Liao Yuan!”
“Report! One Star-02 is missing!”
Xie Yu’s heart felt like it was about to jump out of his throat. Pei An had actually gone to the Dragon Port base. It was too late to stop him now. Pei An must have left the bridge to head for the Star-02. Considering the time, Pei An should have already arrived.
Should he order the ground teams to protect Pei An?
Xie Yu hesitated, unable to make up his mind.
Undoubtedly, he didn’t want Pei An to take risks alone. No one wanted Pei An to take risks. As soon as he gave the order, everyone would prioritize protecting Pei An.
But this wasn’t what Pei An needed. Pei An wasn’t impulsive. If he had piloted the fighter jet to the Dragon Port base, it meant he had enough capability. If he dispatched the ground teams to protect Pei An, Pei An would surely be disappointed in him. A commander who didn’t consider the bigger picture wasn’t worthy of Pei An’s trust.
“Commander, what should we do?” his subordinates asked him.
Xie Yu clenched his fist. “Grant Pei An full access to the ground team’s permissions, setting him as the highest authority. If Pei An needs it, the ground team will be under his direct command.”
Upon reaching the ground, Pei An activated the fighter jet’s stealth mode and jumped out of the cockpit. Xie Yu summarized the results of the ground team’s exploration and sent them to Pei An’s smart brain. Pei An didn’t need to figure things out himself.
The Dragon Port base housed tens of thousands of interstellar pirates, but their numbers determined that the base couldn’t be too large. The ground team had already mapped out a rough layout of the base, so Pei An only needed to move towards his target.
At the heart of the base lay the central area, where the ruling interstellar pirates resided. Pei An made his way towards it. Even if he encountered interstellar pirates on the way, he could use his psychic abilities to influence their memories. In just a moment, no one would notice his presence.
Xie Yu gave new orders to Zhuge Yue, telling her to be more direct and to speed up. Although Pei An had gone to the Dragon Port base, Xie Yu still worried. Pei An lacked this kind of combat experience.
Zhuge Yue obeyed Xie Yu’s orders without question. She immediately changed her approach, causing a cacophony of screams from the interrogation room.
Pei An arrived at the central area, heavily guarded with various automatic weapons and many interstellar pirates standing watch. Pei An slowly spread out his psychic power, wrapping it around each interstellar pirate, infiltrating their minds and suggesting to them that the person who would enter later was an ally.
After completing his suggestions, Pei An confidently bypassed the tightly guarded interstellar pirates and entered the two-story building in the central area.
“Commander, the interrogation results are out. The biochemical weapons are hidden deep in the mountains, far from the base. We can safely bomb them,” Zhuge Yue reported to Xie Yu, directly addressing him.
“Ground team, converge on the three coordinates where the workers are located,” was the instruction to the ground team.
“All units, breach the enemy’s defense system!” was the command to the entire fleet.
This method of attack undoubtedly consumed more weapon reserves. The firepower of the main and escort ships’ missiles far surpassed that of the fighter jets. One missile launched, and even the gun turret would be helpless. They had to bomb regardless.
Countless small ships and fighter jets flew out, surrounding the enemy’s defense system and raining down endless barrages of shells. In just a few minutes, the entire defense system was forcibly breached. As for the isolated gun turrets and escort ships, they posed no threat.
“Immediately enter the Dragon Port base!” Xie Yu stared at the screen intently, sweat rolling down his forehead.
Upon hearing the alarm, Pei An knew that Xie Yu had initiated action in space. In response, he hastened his movements and directly grabbed an interstellar pirate, implanting a suggestion: “Who calls the shots here?”
The interstellar pirate’s eyes went dull. “Belugas, Andyku, and Shifeiwan.”
“Where are they?”
“Go further in. There’s a circular conference room. They’re there.”
“Very well, you may end yourself.” Pei An patted the pirate on the shoulder and headed straight for the circular conference room.
With the defense system destroyed, the interstellar pirates lost their sturdy defense and were left in disarray, forced to organize ground personnel to confront the attack.
The incoming forces from the air held the advantage, with countless small ships and fighter jets densely packed, their imposing presence enough to awe.
“Wasn’t there supposed to be an alarm from the defense system? This damn thing didn’t alert us at all!”
“Damn it! How did they find us in this secluded place?”
“That’s not important! Let’s focus on dealing with the situation at hand!”
Unbeknownst to them, an invisible web of psychic energy tightly entangled them, like silkworms wrapped in silk. Unless the silk was removed, they couldn’t break free.
Meanwhile, the guards protecting the three interstellar pirate leaders were directly strangled by Pei An’s psychic power.
Numerous bodies littered the ground, contorted in agony. Each corpse bore the grimace of a painful death.
Pei An politely knocked on the door. “Excuse me, Belugas, Andyku, and… Shifeiwan.”
