- Chapter 7 - Be a Little Tail That Follows Sir
The players were not surprised at all. The male lover, this NPC who was nothing but a pretty face, was foolish and overly saintly, clearly a burden to the team. When Yan Ting had first revealed the truth, the male lover had naively asked whether they should inform the passengers. After receiving a negative response, he still stubbornly insisted on his unnecessary kindness, causing trouble for everyone.
The female lover player was furious: “What are you thinking? If you want to die, don’t drag all of us down with you!”
Other players, bound by their character roles, did not dare to question loudly, but their faces were filled with frustration. Even the engineer player, who had previously broken down, whispered, “What should we do? It’s all because of that male lover. Is our plan useless now? Are we all going to die here…?”
“Enough,” the bodyguard Zhong Minglang said, rubbing his forehead, asking the brown-haired man to explain what had happened.
The brown-haired man, looking at the agitated players, said, “What else could it be? Just now in the business class, that blonde kid was hiding underneath and eavesdropping.”
“The sissy who sells his ass not only didn’t stop him but also helped him hide,” he continued.
Lin Qiao had fallen asleep after drinking and only when everyone left did the blonde boy run back to the economy class. The brown-haired man insisted that the blonde boy had spoken, but the boy’s mother shook her head repeatedly. Her face pale with fear, her voice became shrill: “God will punish you. You’re talking nonsense. My child didn’t say anything. It was you…”
“What did I do? Ask the other passengers who said it. You foreign bitch, why are you shouting? Do you think I won’t slap you to death?” The brown-haired man interrupted her argument, clearly in the wrong.
The bodyguard player was thoughtful. He knew the brown-haired man was the culprit, but exposing him now would only leave them with one less player. Lin Qiao, with his head down, was trembling all over, clutching his overcoat: “I… I saw that child. It’s my fault.”
“He’s just a child. He doesn’t understand anything. No one would listen to him,” Lin Qiao continued, tears falling onto the overcoat, leaving dark stains. He wiped his tears with his sleeve, looked up, his nose and the corners of his eyes pink from crying: “I’m sorry.”
He was even defending the blonde boy, unable to argue for himself. The female lover sneered, “Is saying sorry going to help? Are you also going to say it wouldn’t have happened if Zhong Minglang hadn’t given you the candy, if Mr. Yan Ting hadn’t thrown it away, the boy wouldn’t have come over?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Lin Qiao shook his head vigorously: “No, I don’t mean to blame Mr. Yan Ting or Zhong Minglang.”
Yan Ting wrapped his arm around Lin Qiao’s waist and pulled him into his embrace: “Don’t cry, don’t be afraid. I know it’s not your fault.”
The female lover was stunned and rolled her eyes: “One day, we’ll all be dragged down by this burden.”
Yan Ting, however, glared at the female lover. His pale, snake-like eyes made her shiver, and she dared not criticize further.
Yan Ting ordered the men in black to drag the brown-haired man out. The brown-haired man, his scars from the beating aching, shouted: “Don’t come near me. What are you doing? Damn it, my own lover causes trouble, and you’re just taking it out on me? If you’ve got the guts, fight me one-on-one.”
Lin Qiao peeked out from Yan Ting’s embrace, his small, furry head trembling with fear as he looked at everyone, at a loss.
“System,” Lin Qiao complained in his mind, “These players are so naive.”
“I’ve hinted enough, why can’t they see it?”
“Some are just stupid, some don’t want to lose any players, and some just want to have fun,” the system replied.
Yan Ting let go of Lin Qiao, but Lin Qiao, like a little tail, followed Yan Ting wherever he went.
The men in black beat the brown-haired man and pinned him to the ground. Yan Ting squatted down and took out a dagger. In front of all the passengers, he cut off two fingers from the brown-haired man’s left hand: “First, you know about Qiao Qiao and the kid, so you saw everything.”
If Lin Qiao was considered to have kept silent about something he knew, then the brown-haired man was guilty too.
“Second, would the passengers believe an eleven-year-old child?” he continued. Likely, everyone would think the child was just talking nonsense and wouldn’t be able to stir up such a crowd of passengers.
“So it was you,” Yan Ting wiped the blood from the dagger with a handkerchief, stood up, and stepped on the brown-haired man’s wound.
The brown-haired man, stubborn until the end, tried to deny it, but his words were replaced by painful screams.
Yan Ting casually pointed to a passenger with the dagger: “Who told you?”
The passenger was terrified and stammered: “It was the brown-haired man. He told us, but he told us to say the boy revealed it.”
“It’s not my fault. I never believed in any sun mutation from the beginning!” the passenger insisted.
The other players realized that the leak had nothing to do with Lin Qiao, but was caused by the brown-haired player.
Looking at the little boy trembling in his mother’s arms, if it were a player in this situation, would they really say something that would get the boy killed by the men in black?
The plane’s announcement came just then, with the captain’s voice: “Ladies and gentlemen, we have arrived at our temporary destination, Iceland’s XBD Airport.”
“Please remain seated until the seatbelt sign is turned off. Do not get up or open the overhead bins to retrieve your luggage.”
“There will be some turbulence during landing. Fasten your seatbelts, and also… wish you a safe journey.”
Yan Ting’s face was tense: “Proceed as planned.”
No one answered the passengers’ questions. They could choose to believe or not. Strangely, Yan Ting didn’t order anything to be done to the passengers. He buckled Lin Qiao into his seat and fastened the seatbelt himself.
Lin Qiao whispered, “Sir, is there anything I can do to help?”
Yan Ting wiped the corners of Lin Qiao’s eyes with his hand, seemingly hesitating, seemingly struggling.
Lin Qiao nuzzled against Yan Ting’s warm palm, and Yan Ting, as if startled, quickly withdrew his hand: “Follow me.”
During the descent, Lin Qiao’s ears hurt, and he closed his eyes to endure it until he heard the screams from the economy class.
“Look! What’s happening outside the window?”
“Could it be that what they said is true?”
“No way! I have to get off the plane and see for myself. I need to contact my wife.”
As they descended further, passengers could see the situation near the airport from the windows. Lin Qiao couldn’t help but peek as well.
He saw flames shooting up from the ground outside the window, with thick smoke rising from many places, no lights, only fire.
When they got closer to the ground, a passenger who happened to have a pair of binoculars saw something and exclaimed excitedly, “That brown-haired man lied to everyone. There are people on the ground! I see people walking!”
“There are living people, which means it’s not something like a sun mutation.”
“Maybe it was a hotspot that triggered some disaster. It’s better to take shelter on the ground than to stay on the plane.”
The crowd cheered. After the plane landed smoothly and stopped on the runway, most passengers chose to get off and see what was going on.
Even the players were curious: “Is it necessary to keep flying west, to keep taking shelter on the plane?”
