- Chapter 30 - Returning to Grandma's House for the Festival
Shen Yunxing tilted his head towards the man’s lips, but before their lips could meet, his face had already turned as red as a tomato.
At eighteen years old, this was the first time he had ever dared to steal a kiss from someone, and his heart was pounding so hard it felt like it would burst out of his chest.
Summoning his courage, he lowered his head a bit more, but after nearly five minutes of holding the pouting position, his neck was sore, and he hadn’t even managed to brush the corner of the man’s mouth.
Frustrated, he buried his head into the man’s chest, but after a moment, feeling unsatisfied, he lifted his head and quickly kissed the man’s chin. In his nervousness, the kiss made a sound, “smack,” which embarrassed him so much he wished he could twist his head off.
“Awake?” Fu Tingzhou had just woken up, his voice carrying a hint of laziness that sounded incredibly sexy.
“Mm.” Shen Yunxing mumbled, his head buried in the man’s chest.
“Are you hungry?”
Shen Yunxing shook his head.
Not hungry. After losing face like that, who could think about eating?
“Really?” Fu Tingzhou reached out and, through the shirt, touched the boy’s stomach. “It’s flat.”
“Mr. Fu, why are you like this?” Shen Yunxing pressed down on the man’s hand, muttering softly.
The latter chuckled lightly, “So only the high-ranking officials are allowed to start fires while the commoners aren’t allowed to light lamps?”
Shen Yunxing immediately stiffened.
He’d been caught stealing a kiss!
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Fu Tingzhou reached out and gently pinched the back of the boy’s neck.
“…” Shen Yunxing shut his eyes, pretending to be a quail.
With his face and neck burning red from embarrassment, Fu Tingzhou stopped teasing him, instead gently stroking the boy’s soft short hair as he asked, “Do you want to go out to eat or order in?”
The head in his arms moved, and after a moment, Shen Yu’s muffled voice said, “I don’t want to go out.”
Fu Tingzhou laughed, “Alright, I’ll call Liuchunyuan and have them deliver the food.”
Shen Yunxing nodded, his toes curling tightly in embarrassment.
Ten minutes later, with his cheeks burning, Shen Yunxing sat on the sofa watching “Tom and Jerry.” The study door wasn’t closed all the way, and the man’s calm, steady voice occasionally drifted over, causing his mind to wander.
After Mr. Fu found out he had stolen a kiss, not only was he not angry, but he even smiled and touched his stomach…
Does this mean Mr. Fu really likes him?
But what does Mr. Fu like about him? He has nothing but youth.
No, he also has a baby.
Is Mr. Fu indulging him so much because of the baby?
Shen Yunxing touched his belly, his brow furrowing.
He ate dinner absentmindedly. After dinner, Ms. Shen called to urge him to come home, but he wanted to finish watching the premiere of “Confessions of Killer ‘A'” with Mr. Fu, so he lied to his mother, saying he was at a classmate’s gathering and would be home around eleven.
During the summer vacation before his senior year of high school, his youngest son would leave early and return late for his acting, so Ms. Shen had gotten used to it and didn’t suspect anything. She just reminded him to be careful before ending the call.
“Did you call home?” Fu Tingzhou came out of the kitchen with a glass of milk.
“Yeah, I called.” Shen Yunxing kept a straight face as he took the glass, drank it in two gulps, and handed the glass back to the man.
“What did your mom say?” Fu Tingzhou asked, noticing the ring of milk around the boy’s mouth and smiling.
“She told me to be safe.” Shen Yunxing said, picking at the tassels on the sofa cushion.
Fu Tingzhou nodded.
“Beep—beep—”
Shen Yu’s alarm, set for eight o’clock, suddenly went off. He immediately sat up straight, grabbing the man’s arm, nervously and excitedly staring at the TV.
As the opening credits ended, a boy bathed in sunlight appeared on the screen…
Meanwhile, due to effective promotion, “Confessions of Killer ‘A'” climbed into the top twenty of the trending list within half an hour of its premiere.

…
Focused on the drama, Shen Yunxing didn’t realize that he had gained a modest popularity on Weibo. In just two hours, his followers had surged from triple digits to one hundred thousand!
After watching two episodes of the web series, Shen Yunxing was still wanting more.
Fu Tingzhou glanced at the boy’s delicate profile, a sense of pride welling up within him.
No matter where his young man went, he always shone brightly.
“Mr. Fu, what do you think of the show?” Shen Yunxing asked nervously on the way home.
“It’s great.”
Hearing the man’s praise, he raised his chin and smiled happily.
Ten minutes later, the car stopped at the entrance of the residential area.
“Mr. Fu, drive safely.” After getting out of the car, Shen Yunxing stood by the roadside, holding his backpack and waving to the man.
“Go inside. It’s too cold out, be careful not to catch a cold,” Fu Tingzhou said.
“It’s fine.” Shen Yunxing smiled at him, “Mr. Fu’s coat is very warm.”
Wearing it felt like being hugged by the man.
Thinking of this, his face suddenly turned red.
“I’ll go in now. Goodbye, Mr. Fu!” He said, lowering his head, and then quickly walked away, so quickly that Fu Tingzhou couldn’t stop him.
“Little fool, you forgot your cufflinks.” He watched the boy’s hurried back, chuckling to himself.
When he got home, Shen Yunxing found his entire family sitting in the living room waiting for him, making his scalp tingle with anxiety.
“Dad, Mom, Brother, what’s up?” he asked nervously.
“Tingting’s heart surgery was successful. Mom wants to properly thank your friend and his relative. Can you ask when they’re available so we can invite them over for a meal?” Shen Yu’s mother said with a smile.
So that’s what it was about.
Shen Yunxing let out a sigh of relief, but then his body stiffened abruptly.
Wait, did Ms. Shen just say she wanted him to invite Mr. Fu to their house for a meal?!
“No need. My friend and his relative are very busy, and we’re not that close. It would be awkward to invite them over to our place for dinner.”
Ms. Shen nodded, “It would be awkward, Yuxi.”
“Right? So, how about I just invite them…”
“Then let’s eat at a restaurant. I’ve heard the food at Liuchunyuan is good.” Ms. Shen turned to look at her elder son, “Yunshu, you’ve eaten at Liuchunyuan, how’s the environment?”
Shen Yunshu said, “The environment is nice, and they serve Chinese food, so no worries about not liking the food.”
“Mom, really, it’s not necessary. My classmate said his relative is very busy with construction work every day.” Shen Yunxing waved his hand, but the three of them didn’t listen to him.
“You need a reservation to eat there, right? Yunshu, call them tomorrow morning and see when we can get a table.”
“Okay.”
“Hongan, call Yuhua and Zhang Sheng to thank them for saving their daughter.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll call first thing tomorrow.” Shen Yu’s father said.
Shen Yu: Mr. Fu, I tried my best QAQ.
Back in his room, he told Mr. Fu about the situation, and to his surprise, the man agreed with a smile.
“Mr. Fu, if you don’t want to come, you don’t have to force yourself.”
It’s true that the “ugly daughter-in-law” has to meet her in-laws eventually, but he hadn’t even caught Mr. Fu yet. If Ms. Shen found out Mr. Fu was the baby’s other father, she might think Mr. Fu was trying to show off.
Plus, Mr. Fu and Dr. Liu were both important figures—one a business mogul and the other the son of a hospital director. People like them were not ones a college freshman like him should be associating with. His dad might not notice, but Ms. Shen and his older brother would definitely be suspicious!
After explaining his concerns to Mr. Fu, the man reached out and tapped his forehead.
“Silly, just have your friend be the intermediary.”
“Intermediary?”
Shen Yunxing blinked, then his eyes lit up.
Yes, he could call in his seniors to help!
And it wouldn’t hurt for Mr. Fu to make a good impression on Ms. Shen. After all, Mr. Fu was so outstanding, it was important to show he was approachable and easy to get along with!
So it was settled.
Ms. Shen set the date for October 2nd. The 1st was the Mid-Autumn Festival, a day for family gatherings, so it wasn’t appropriate to invite people out.
The next day, Shen Yunxing had just woken up when he received a message from Mr. Fu.
[Mr. Fu]: [Red envelope]
[Mr. Fu]: Happy Mid-Autumn Festival, little friend.
“What little friend? You should be calling me boyfriend, you know.” He muttered, poking Mr. Fu’s profile picture with a red face.
Then he noticed something strange. Mr. Fu had changed his WeChat profile picture to a close-up of his face, even though it was just his character from the web series, it was still him!
[Yunxing]: Mr. Fu, why did you change your profile picture?
He asked, blushing.
The man replied, “Do you like it?”
Shen Yunxing pouted.
Of course, it looked good. How could it not?
“What plans do you have today? I’ll be going with Tang Che to Wucheng Mountain to see the old man,” Fu Tingzhou said over the phone.
Shen Yunxing replied, “I’m heading to my grandma’s house soon. My grandparents passed away a long time ago, so we spend Mid-Autumn Festival at my grandma’s every year.”
“Are you staying overnight?” the other side asked.
“Yeah, it’s a bit far, and it’s not safe to drive at night. Grandma wouldn’t allow it,” Shen Yunxing explained.
“Does your grandma have any young children around?” Fu Tingzhou asked.
Shen Yunxing thought for a moment and said, “My uncle has two kids, but they were too young to come last year. They’ll probably be there this year.”
There was a pause on the other end before Fu Tingzhou said, “Alright, be safe on the road, and don’t jump around while walking.”
“When have I ever jumped around?” Shen Yunxing muttered discontentedly.
The man chuckled, and after a bit more conversation, they reluctantly hung up the phone.
“Yunxing, are you ready? We’re leaving,” his brother Shen Yunshu called from downstairs.
“Coming!”
…
Shen Yu’s mother came from a well-educated family, far better off than Shen Yu’s father. Back then, she went against her family’s wishes to come to Lin’an City with his father to build a life. Out of spite, Shen Yu’s grandmother didn’t contact her for years until Shen Yunshu was born, and the relationship between the families gradually eased.
When Shen Yunxing was born, his grandmother doted on him like a treasure. Every time they visited, she wouldn’t let go of his hand, even arranging for him to sit next to her during meals.
Lin’an City was nearly a four-hour drive from his grandmother’s house. Not long after getting in the car, Shen Yunxing fell asleep.
His mother sat beside him, watching him with a blanket and a thermos, with a backpack full of snacks. She felt something was off but couldn’t pinpoint what.
However, seeing her younger son in much better spirits than before made her happy.
Sleeping and eating alternately on the way, Shen Yunxing eventually moderated his behavior under the watchful eyes of his family.
“Son, you’ve been eating a lot lately,” his mother said, eyeing him. “You eat so much, but you don’t seem to gain any weight.”
Shen Yunxing quietly touched his belly, thinking: I did gain weight, but this little rascal inside me is absorbing it all, leaving me with very little.
“All kids this age are like that. I ate a lot too when I was his age,” Shen Yunshu said with a laugh while driving.
His mother nodded. “That’s true. When your brother was your age, he could eat three bowls of rice in one meal. If we weren’t well off, he would have eaten us out of house and home.”
“Haha, brother, I didn’t know you were such a big eater.”
“He takes after me. I had a big appetite when I was young too, but not anymore. I’m getting old,” their father chimed in.
“You’re not old. As the saying goes, a man at forty is a flower. You’re only in your early fifties, so rounded down, you’re still forty and a flower,” Shen Yunxing teased happily.
“You little rascal, how dare you joke about your old man!” his father pretended to be angry.
With everyone chatting and laughing, the tedious journey became enjoyable.
Half an hour later, the car drove into Gaoxin City, and after another ten minutes, they finally saw the familiar buildings.
Before the car had even stopped, Shen Yunxing saw his grandmother eagerly waiting by the roadside through the window.
“Grandma!” he rolled down the window and waved vigorously at her.
“Hey, pull your hand back in, it’s dangerous!” she said worriedly.
As soon as her two grandsons got out of the car, she grabbed each by the hand, her wrinkled face beaming with joy.
Seeing her mother’s frail legs, Shen Yu’s mother’s eyes reddened.
“Mom, we’re back to see you.”
“Yes, it’s good you’re back. Your brother’s family arrived early, and we’ve been waiting for you,” his grandmother said, patting her daughter’s hand.
“Ms. Shen, you’re a grown woman, crying like a baby, aren’t you ashamed?” Shen Yunxing joked, then quickly hid behind his grandmother to avoid a scolding.
His mother glared at him, cursing with a laugh, “You little brat.”
“Sis, who said you can scold our Yunxing without my permission?” his uncle Shen Rongchen came out of the house, laughing. “I’ve watched Yunshu and Yunxing grow up. If you and my brother-in-law want to scold them, you’ll need my permission first.”
With someone backing him up, Shen Yunxing stuck his tongue out at his mother from behind his grandmother, then happily called out, “Uncle!”
“Long time no see, our little Yunxing has become a big star.” Shen Rongchen ruffled his nephew’s hair.
“Hehe.”
After bonding with his younger nephew, Shen Rongchen turned his attention to his older nephew, Shen Yunshu.
“Uncle.”
“Mm, as expected of our Shen family. One young man has become a university professor, and the other is a future star. With kids as good-looking as these, their own children will surely be outstanding!”
Shen Yunxing rubbed his belly, nodding in agreement.
Of course, with Mr. Fu being so exceptional, their child couldn’t be anything less.
Beside him, Shen Yunshu’s face stiffened momentarily.
Children? He probably wouldn’t have any in his lifetime.
