- Chapter 58 - This Son Is No Good
Shen Yunshu arrived back and frowned when he saw the standoff in the living room between his parents and Mr. Fu.
“Dad, Mom.”
Mrs. Shen nodded but did not speak. Mr. Shen was still angry and ignored his eldest son for not being upfront about the situation.
After a moment, Mrs. Shen looked at Mr. Fu with a cold attitude and said, “You should leave. I can take care of my own son; we don’t need you for that.”
Mr. Fu replied, “The responsibility for this matter is mine. I hope you won’t make things difficult for Yunxing.” He glanced towards the stairs, where the young man’s bedroom was located. “His health has just started to improve, so he shouldn’t be overly agitated.”
Mrs. Shen shot him a glance and said, “I know better than you how to take care of a pregnant person. There’s no need for you to worry about it.”
Seeing that his parents wanted to drive Mr. Fu away, Shen Yunshu spoke up, “Let them see each other before he leaves. Yunxing is currently in an emotional state, and I’m worried that if he wakes up and can’t find anyone, it might be problematic.”
Mrs. Shen hesitated upon hearing this.
Her youngest son had never had a strong constitution. When he was a few months old, he had a cold that nearly turned into pneumonia. As he grew older, his health didn’t improve much. Every cold he caught could last from half a month to over six months, and it wasn’t until he started elementary school that his health began to improve.
Even for a woman, pregnancy could have significant impacts on her health if not properly cared for. Given that Yunxing was a man with a weak constitution, the situation was even more concerning.
“I’ll go upstairs to check on your brother. Lao Shen, go to the kitchen and make some pork rib soup. Remember to cook it for a long time, or the nutrition won’t be extracted,” Mrs. Shen instructed before heading upstairs.
Mr. Fu, who was allowed to stay, received a message from the young man, which made him smile a little more.
**[Fu]: Don’t worry, I’m fine.**
Shen Yunxing, who had only slept for about half an hour, woke up, still thinking about Mr. Fu. He sent a message to confirm that Mr. Fu was not harmed by his father, which relieved him.
The sound of footsteps came from outside the bedroom, and soon Mrs. Shen entered.
“Mom.” He clutched his phone, feeling nervous and uneasy.
“Mm.” Mrs. Shen sat by the bed and looked at her son’s protruding belly. “Why are you up? Did the baby wake you?”
Shen Yunxing shook his head, his eyes reddening as he looked at Mrs. Shen’s graying hair that had grown back.
“Mom, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have kept this from you, but I was scared. I didn’t dare to tell you…”
“Don’t cry, you’re going to be a father now. The baby will think it’s funny if you cry,” Mrs. Shen said as she wiped away her son’s tears.
“Mom, aren’t you angry with me?” he choked up.
“Yes, I’m angry. How could I not be?” Mrs. Shen looked at her son, whose face was slightly yellow from lack of sleep, with regret and helplessness. “But what’s the use of being angry now that things have already happened?”
“Son, it’s my fault. I didn’t take good care of you.”
She held her son’s hand, regretting not providing enough security that led him to hide such a big matter instead of turning to family for support.
“It’s not your fault. It’s my mistake,” Shen Yunxing shook his head.
His elder brother, who was ten years older, had always been praised with, “Your brother won first place in the province again,” “You’re all teachers in the family; you’ll probably be a teacher too,” “Son, you should be a teacher too; we need to have a complete family…”
Later, his elder brother became a teacher and then a professor, while he chose to be an actor. His parents didn’t stop him but encouraged him instead, making him eager to achieve something to show them, to make them proud of their son.
He was afraid of seeing disappointment in his parents’ eyes, so when he found out he was pregnant, he couldn’t bring himself to tell them.
If it hadn’t been for Mr. Fu, he might have chosen to go to a strange city alone to have the baby, perhaps not returning with the child for a year or two, or even longer, until he found the courage to come back.
Fortunately, he met Mr. Fu.
Shen Yunxing felt grateful in his heart.
When he gathered his thoughts, he leaned forward to hug Mrs. Shen’s shoulder, his tone cheerful when talking about Mr. Fu.
“Maybe this was a mistake at first, but I don’t regret it because I love Mr. Fu. Just like you love Dad.”
“Mom, the baby and I both need Mr. Fu. Please don’t make me leave him, okay?”
Mother Shen’s heart trembled. She stroked her younger son’s back and said, “Alright, you’re making me sound like a villain here. I’m not forcing you two apart. You’re having a child together—if he wasn’t willing to take responsibility, then I’d really have to break his legs. What’s so special about the Fu Corporation? No matter who it is, no one can hurt my son.”
“Mom, does that mean you’ve accepted Mr. Fu as your son-in-law?” Shen Yunxing lifted his head, looking at his mother with a face full of surprise.
She’s already calling him ‘son-in-law’ even though he’s already pregnant. The son she raised for eighteen years has suddenly become someone else’s, and she’s not even allowed to be upset for a few days?
Looking at her younger son, who seemed ready to defect to the other side at any moment, Mother Shen felt a sourness well up in her heart.
“Mom, I’m hungry. Let’s go downstairs and eat.” Shen Yunxing clung to his mother’s arm, rubbing his cheek against her shoulder in a fawning manner.
“Dinner’s not ready yet. Why don’t you have something else to tide you over first?” Mother Shen stroked her younger son’s face, which had become noticeably thinner. “What do you want to eat? I’ll have your father go to the supermarket to get it.”
Shen Yunxing: “No need, Mr. Fu has snacks downstairs.” As he spoke, he prepared to get out of bed and head downstairs to find Mr. Fu.
“Don’t you dare!” Mother Shen stopped him, glaring at her son who seemed overly dependent on Mr. Fu. She flicked him on the forehead with her finger.
“Mom,” Shen Yunxing covered his forehead and said pitifully, “didn’t you already agree to let me be with Mr. Fu?”
Mother Shen closed her eyes. This son might as well have been raised for nothing.
“Do you like him that much?”
Shen Yunxing nodded. “I like him a lot, really a lot.”
“Pathetic,” Mother Shen scolded.
“Hehe.”
Seeing how her son turned into a lovestruck fool at the mere mention of Mr. Fu, Mother Shen sighed inwardly.
“Yunxing, I didn’t pay much attention to you when you were little. By the time I wanted to start caring for you, I realized you had already grown up and didn’t seem to need your mother anymore. I didn’t know how to mend our relationship, so I just tried to be good to you.”
“You found someone you like, and I’m actually very happy about that. But the fact that it’s Fu Tingzhou makes me worried that he might have other motives. After all, there’s such a huge gap between you two—not just in age, but also in background.”
“People like him usually don’t get to decide their own marriages.”
Mother Shen looked at her younger son with concern. “I’m afraid you’ll get hurt.”
“Mom, Mr. Fu only has the baby and me now,” Shen Yunxing said firmly. “So no matter what happens, the baby and I won’t leave him.”
Mother Shen was taken aback.
“His family…”
“They’ve all passed away.” Shen Yunxing’s expression showed a mix of sadness and heartache. Thinking of Grandpa Tang, his mood lifted a bit.
“He still has a grandfather who treats him very well. Mr. Fu has already introduced us. Oh, and Grandpa Tang even gave me a family heirloom!”
Grandpa Tang? So that’s the elder in Mr. Fu’s family.
Mother Shen stayed silent, letting her son continue.
“Mom, you wouldn’t believe how extravagant the family heirloom that Grandpa Tang gave me is. It’s a whole box full of property deeds, land titles, and lots of jewelry. Even if the baby and I spent our entire lives doing nothing, we wouldn’t be able to finish spending it all.”
“And that’s not all—Mr. Fu also gave the baby 15% of Fu Corporation’s shares, which his grandfather had originally set aside for his grandson.”
After tallying up the baby’s current assets, he pouted a little, feeling a bit jealous.
“This little guy has it really good. He’s already a multimillionaire before he’s even born.” He rubbed his belly as he spoke.
“Mom?” He called out, puzzled by Mother Shen’s prolonged silence.
“Mm, I’m listening.” Mother Shen stroked her son’s hair.
Her younger son was still very young. With Fu Tingzhou’s powerful advances, even she might not have been able to resist if she were younger, let alone her pure-hearted son.
Separating the two was impossible now. She could only hope that things would turn out as her son said, and that Mr. Fu would treat him well for the rest of his life.
“Mom, are you still mad at me?” Shen Yunxing asked cautiously.
“What, is there something else you haven’t told me?” Seeing her son’s hesitation, Mother Shen knew there must be more he was hiding.
“Uh, I’ll tell you, but please don’t get mad.” He touched his nose, speaking cautiously.
Mother Shen gave him a sidelong glance. “Go ahead.”
She was curious to know what else could be more infuriating than hiding the fact that he was having a baby.
Shen Yunxing: “Mr. Fu and I have already gotten our marriage certificate.”
“What?!” Mother Shen’s eyes widened.
“Shen Yunxing! Are you trying to make me furious?!”
Hearing his full name, Shen Yunxing shrank a little, his voice dropping several notches. “Mom, you promised not to get mad…”
“Who promised you that! Why don’t you just go ahead and finish the wedding and have the baby before telling me?!”
“That was the plan, but Mr. Fu said he didn’t want our wedding to go without the blessing of our parents,” Shen Yunxing mumbled in a very small voice.
“What are you mumbling about?!”
“Nothing.” Shen Yunxing hugged his mother’s neck and nuzzled her. “Mom, I was wrong. Please don’t be mad, okay? The baby’s watching, and we need to set a good example for him.”
“You think you’ve set enough ‘good examples’ as his father?” Mother Shen retorted angrily.
“Mom, big brother has known about this for a while!”
“Don’t try to change the subject. Neither you nor your brother is getting away with this!”
Thinking of her elder son, who knew everything but said nothing and even helped cover it up, Mother Shen’s face darkened.
“Grrr—”
“Mom, the baby’s hungry.” Shen Yunxing covered his belly, smiling foolishly.
Looking at her well-behaved and sensible younger son, who was just barely an adult but already about to have a child with a man, Mother Shen felt incredibly frustrated.
But what could she do? The bigger issue was her pregnant son’s well-being. She couldn’t just ignore his and her future grandchild’s safety and kick Fu Tingzhou out of the house.
“Go ahead.” She waved her hand dismissively.
Out of sight, out of mind—she’d just pretend Mr. Fu didn’t exist.
But! Fu Tingzhou’s presence was too overwhelming to ignore, no matter how hard she tried.
Fu Tingzhou: “This one’s too garlicky, don’t eat too much.”
Shen Yunxing smiled sweetly. “Got it~”
“Thirsty? Want some water?”
“Yes~”
After Mr. Fu fed him water, Shen Yunxing held up the snack he had just taken a bite of and, in a familiar motion, offered it to Mr. Fu.
“This is really tasty. Mr. Fu, want to try it?”
“Sure.”
Seeing her son clinging to Mr. Fu like a little flower, smiling radiantly, Mother Shen’s eyes burned with jealousy.
“Stop eating so much, too many snacks will upset your stomach.”
How could she trust this man to take care of her son when he didn’t even know something as basic as this?
“Mom, these snacks were specially imported for expectant mothers by Mr. Fu. Even if I eat a lot, they won’t upset my stomach.” Shen Yunxing explained.
Mother Shen: “…”
Can this son still be saved? His loyalty has already switched sides from the South Pole to the North Pole!!
