Pregnant With The Pup Of A Wealthy Old Man - Chapter 64
“Why?” Ke Tong asked with a smile, “He is indeed very good-looking. I even like him a bit myself.”
“I don’t know how you got involved, but you once said you also liked acting. I hope you will take every opportunity seriously and not use it as a means to get back at me,” Joe Shiyu said expressionlessly.
“Get back at you?” Ke Tong was taken aback. “How could I? I like you so much. How could I get back at you? I just want to act in a drama with you. But—”
He turned to look in the direction Shen Yunxing had left, his gaze gradually turning cold.
“I need to remind you that it seems you’re getting a bit too close to him,” he said, looking at Joe Shiyu. “It makes me quite unhappy.”
Joe Shiyu frowned slightly but quickly returned to his usual calm demeanor.
“Madman,” he said coldly.
“Ha, a madman? Then let’s go all the way,” Ke Tong said, his smile turning sinister as he watched Joe Shiyu’s retreating figure.
…
The morning shoot went smoothly. After Director Zheng called for a break, everyone cheered and quickly packed up to queue for lunch.
“Yunxing, we have extra lunch. Do you want to join us?” Su Yin asked with a smile.
Shen Yunxing glanced at her assistant who looked bewildered and waved his hand. “Thank you, Su Sister, but no need. I’m fine with the working meal.”
Su Yin seemed a bit disappointed. “Alright, have a good rest after eating. You must be tired after a whole morning of shooting.”
Feeling a bit embarrassed since he had completed nearly ninety-nine percent of his scenes in a wheelchair, Shen Yunxing touched his nose. “Okay, Su Sister, you too.”
“Mm.”
With others around, Su Yin maintained a facade of aloofness. Once they were back in the dressing room and the door was closed, her assistants saw her hugging a pillow and excitedly shouting.
“Ahhh, Xingzi is so well-behaved and cute. Why did my mom only give birth to one child? If I had a little brother as cute as Xingzi, that would be great!”
The two assistants, already used to their artist’s drastically different behavior in private and public, thought: It’s a good thing Auntie didn’t have more kids, or you’d probably spoil them rotten →.→.
“Nana, Yuanyuan, where’s my drawing tablet? Did you bring it?” Su Yin asked her assistants after her excitement subsided.
Assistant Nana: “Yes, do you need it now?”
“Yeah.” Su Yin’s eyes lit up; she was bursting with inspiration!
The two little assistants exchanged a glance, thinking their artist was going to review the script, and were quite pleased.
However, three minutes later, they were left stunned by the few sketchy lines Su Yin had drawn.
“How’s this? Not bad, right?” Su Yin said proudly, holding up the tablet.
An on-set worker passed by, and Assistant Nana quickly covered the screen.
After the person left, she said with a face full of fear, “If someone snaps a picture of this and posts it online, you’ll be in big trouble, you know!”
Su Yin didn’t care much. “What era is this? Same-sex marriage is legal, so why are some paparazzi still so old-fashioned?” She continued to tweak her drawings, adding more bold poses and making the expressions of the male idol even more lewd.
“You can ship couples, but you can’t. You’re a star. With how popular you’ve become these past two years, so many eyes in the industry are watching you.”
Assistant Nana advised earnestly, “Auntie, please behave. Let’s just draw at the hotel. There are too many people and prying eyes here. If someone does catch us, we’ll be in big trouble with Mr. Qin!”
“Ugh.” Su Yin sighed, then handed the tablet to her anxious assistants.
She wondered why she ever decided to market herself as a cold goddess. Being a comedic actress would be so much better; she could ship couples however she wanted and not fear a scandal.
“Do you think Mr. Qin would agree to let me switch to a comedic persona if I asked him?” Su Yin asked.
“Ah?” The two assistants were confused.
“How about becoming a comedic actress?”
Assistants: No need to become one, you already are.
But to avoid losing their jobs, they shook their heads vigorously.
“No, it’s not like that. You’re so beautiful, how could you be a comedic actress?”
Su Yin touched her chin thoughtfully and nodded. “True.”
“A goddess is still a goddess. It’s also fine to enjoy being a comedic actress online.” She stretched lazily.
“Su Sister, let’s eat. We have several more scenes to shoot this afternoon. We can only rest for half an hour at noon, and we’ll be shooting night scenes tonight. We need to rest well,” Assistant Yuanyuan reminded her.
“What?” Su Yin’s eyes widened. Three seconds later, tears of despair appeared. “Why are you doing this to me? I want to rest! I want to travel! If nothing else, let me be on a slow variety show to cheer up!”
“Qin Jingchen, you’re being too unreasonable!”
Meanwhile, Shen Yunxing encountered a small problem.
“I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to knock your lunch over.” Ke Tong said, bowing deeply in front of everyone.
In Director Zheng’s crew, the main actors and extras are treated equally, and everyone queues for meals together.
Though knocking over a lunchbox wasn’t a big deal, Ke Tong’s dramatic reaction made it seem as if Shen Yunxing was deliberately making things difficult for him.
“It’s fine, you don’t need to do this,” Shen Yunxing said, frowning slightly.
“How about you have my lunch? I don’t have many scenes this afternoon, so I should be able to hold out until the night shoot,” Ke Tong offered sincerely.
But everyone in the crew knew Director Zheng favored Shen Yunxing and had not assigned him any night scenes in the past two days.
Once these words were out, some extras, who were not afraid of offending people but still wanted to stay in the industry, started giving strange looks.
“It’s just a lunch box. It’s not that serious.”
“The entertainment industry is so deep. Who knows what grudges they might have had before? It’s not unusual for stars to bully smaller actors using their higher status; I’ve seen it a lot.”
“Ah, the second male lead in our crew seems to be just a newcomer who’s only acted in one web drama, right? Why make things difficult for a fellow newcomer?”
“Who knows? Director Zheng takes such good care of him; he probably has some backing.”
People in the queue whispered among themselves.
Although Shen Yunxing couldn’t hear clearly, he could see their expressions and body language vividly.
Mr. Fu was right; the entertainment industry is a big cesspool.
Here, there are plenty of people who flatter others, make judgments without knowing the facts, and trample on others to climb the ranks. There are also those who feign hardship and seek sympathy.
But so what? He simply enjoys acting. If he lets these things get to him so easily, how could he ever become an award-winning actor or stand by Mr. Fu’s side?
“It’s alright, we’re alumni. You don’t need to be so polite,” Shen Yunxing said with a bright smile.
It’s just putting on a show. Who can’t do that?
“Eh? This person seems quite easy to talk to.”
“Wow, this young man is so sweet! Can I apply to be his maid?” said one of the extras.
“Seriously, it’s just knocking over a lunch box. Is it really necessary to bow so deeply? I can almost smell the green tea from here.”
Ke Tong’s face changed several times as he heard the nearby female extras talking. Finally, he suppressed his anger and said awkwardly, “Sorry, I was a bit too emotional just now. I hope I didn’t scare you.”
“No,” Shen Yunxing shook his head.
“Yunxing, it seems like Ke Tong has a grudge against you,” Secretary Yang started a conspiracy theory on their way back to the dressing room. “On the plane, he might have been trying to get close to you on purpose.”
“Probably not,” Shen Yunxing recalled.
If that were the case, he’d have to say that Ke Tong is a really good actor. In reality, Ke Tong’s acting is average, and he often needs several takes to pass.
The dressing room was shared between Shen Yunxing and Ke Tong. When Shen Yunxing and Secretary Yang returned, Ke Tong was not there, only the makeup artist Meng Lele, who had recently been promoted to assistant, was present.
“What happened? Just now, Ke Tong’s assistant came to pack his things. When I asked if I could help, she just gave me a cold stare without saying a word,” Meng Lele said, puzzled.
Secretary Yang briefly explained what had happened. After hearing this, Meng Lele angrily said, “I knew from the first glance that he wasn’t a good person. Sure enough, what a big bowl of green tea!”
“I’m worried he might try something against Yunxing. After I leave in a few days, you need to stay close to Yunxing and take good care of him,” Secretary Yang instructed.
“Got it. Don’t worry, Yang Jie. I’ll make sure nothing happens to Yunxing!” Meng Lele promised, patting her chest.
Seeing the two of them speculating, Shen Yunxing couldn’t help but laugh.
“It’s not like we’re shooting a movie. He’s just showing off verbally. How could he push me into a pond or poison me?”
“That’s true,” Secretary Yang nodded, but she was wary of any potential risks. She needed to report this to the boss as soon as possible.
At 3 PM, after finishing the scenes for the male and female leads, it was time for the confrontation scenes between the male lead and the second male lead.
Shen Yunxing played Song Chenyu, and Joe Shiyu played Lin Yuan, who were originally blood brothers. To protect his younger brother, Lin Yuan had changed his name and sent him to the outer sect as an outer disciple. Later, Lin Yuan fell into darkness, sealed his memories, and forgot about this event.
But when he saw Song Chenyu, who was in a wheelchair, a hint of tenderness stirred in his heart.
When he saw Song Chenyu being bullied and accidentally falling, the usually cold and indifferent Lin Yuan rushed to help him up personally.
The scene was set in winter, and Shen Yunxing was dressed warmly. Director Zheng even had cushions placed underneath, so the risk of injury was almost zero.
However, Director Zheng didn’t know that Shen Yunxing wasn’t actually physically unwell, but had other concerns.
Shen Yunxing, worried about the safety of the baby, instinctively grabbed the person when pushed, causing the scene to fail several times.
“Shen Yunxing, look at what you’re doing! Director Qin assured me that your acting was good and you were professional, but look at this!” Director Zheng lost patience and scolded him through the loudspeaker.
Shen Yunxing pressed his lips together and signaled to Director Zheng to try again.
This time, he didn’t grab the person but let himself fall backward. However, before he could fall, an arm firmly caught his waist.
Looking up, it was Joe Shiyu as Lin Yuan.
“Betraying fellow disciples, deserves death,” Lin Yuan said with a chilling coldness.
In the next moment, the person who had bullied him was flung away.
“Good, cut!” Director Zheng nodded in satisfaction. Although it wasn’t according to the script, the effect was great.
“Thank you,” Shen Yunxing said as he got up from the cushion.
Joe Shiyu glanced at him, his gaze dropping to Shen Yunxing’s stomach.
Shen Yunxing stiffened. Though he knew that it shouldn’t be visible in his current state, he still pretended to adjust his clothes to cover up.
“Ke Tong is capable of anything. You’d better stay away from him,” Joe Shiyu said after a moment, his voice still cold, as if his character and his real self had merged.
Shen Yunxing didn’t immediately grasp who Ke Tong was.
“Why?” he asked when he came back to his senses.
Joe Shiyu looked at him. “Because he’s a madman.”
Shen Yunxing thought he was speaking metaphorically until later when Ke Tong was sent to a psychiatric hospital by Mr. Fu, he realized that Joe Shiyu hadn’t exaggerated.
Ke Tong really was a madman.
