- Chapter 71 - Confronting the Rival
At 9:30 the next morning, Shen Yunxing finally met the rumored Mo Li at the airport.
Outside the airport, the cold wind was bone-chilling, and the blinding snow covered the ground.
Mo Li, who had just disembarked from the plane, seemed to feel no cold at all. She wore a super short skirt with big waves in her hair, and draped over her shoulders was a thin silk scarf that looked barely warm.
Shen Yunxing looked down at himself, bundled up like a penguin by Mr. Fu, and then glanced at the freezing yet beautiful Mo Li, shivering involuntarily.
“Hi Tingzhou, long time no see.” After greeting Mr. Fu, Mo Li’s gaze shifted to the young man beside him.
“You must be Yunxing. You look so young; no wonder Tingzhou likes you.” She said, tossing her hair back.
Shen Yunxing, smelling the faint fragrance coming from Mo Li, straightened his back.
“Hello.” He nodded with composure.
In the presence of a rival, one must not lose face, no matter what.
“Why the serious face? I’ve been an old friend of your husband for more than ten years.” Mo Li winked at him. “I have lots of gossip about your husband, even about the love letters he received from girls during college. Want to sit down and chat sometime? I promise to be thorough and candid~”
Shen Yunxing’s eyelashes fluttered.
Mr. Fu received love letters from girls?
He glanced secretly at Mr. Fu. Though he was curious, he still declined in a deep voice.
“Thank you, but no.”
Mo Li’s expression showed a hint of regret.
“Alright then.” She said.
Fu Tingzhou: “I’ll go get the car. You two wait here for a moment.”
“It’s too cold outside. Stay here and wait.” He stopped Shen Yunxing from following him.
“Got it.” Shen Yunxing pressed his lips together.
He didn’t like being around Mo Li. Her unabashed scrutiny made him feel like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, which made him very uncomfortable.
“Yunxing, do I look scary to you?” Mo Li asked with confusion.
Shen Yunxing paused.
“No, Mo Li Jie, you’re very beautiful.”
Though he was reluctant to admit it, Mo Li was indeed very beautiful, even more so than most female stars in the entertainment industry.
Mo Li, seeing his earnest praise, chuckled.
“Thank you for the compliment. But I can’t help feeling that you seem to harbor a lot of hostility towards me,” she said, flipping her hair back again and slightly leaning forward. “Is it because of Tingzhou?”
Mo Li was tall and elegant, her high heels accentuating her long, straight legs, narrow waist, and full hips. With her slightly leaning posture, her figure drew many admiring glances from those around.
She was used to being watched and didn’t feel embarrassed. Instead, she even flirted with a blonde foreign man nearby.
“I heard you just entered the entertainment industry?” Mo Li gave a provocative smile. “Do you think you’re a good match for Tingzhou right now?”
“Tingzhou, we’re here~”
Before Shen Yunxing could retort, Mo Li had already dragged her luggage towards Mr. Fu.
When she reached the car, the passenger seat was still available. Shen Yunxing glanced at the woman in the back seat, her eyebrows raised defiantly at him, and he frowned.
“Is it cold?” Once inside the car, Fu Tingzhou fastened Shen Yunxing’s seatbelt and gently touched his slightly cold cheek, asking with concern.
Actually, when he saw the snowfall that morning, he had told Shen Yunxing to stay home while he went to pick up the guest. But Shen Yunxing insisted on coming, so he brought him along.
Shen Yunxing shook his head, and Mr. Fu lightly rubbed his head.
“I’ll take you to the hotel first. Huai Jin’s surgery should be over around noon.” Fu Tingzhou said while driving.
“I don’t want to stay in a hotel. Your home has plenty of empty rooms. Just tidy one up for me to stay in.”
She was indeed here to compete with him for Mr. Fu.
Shen Yunxing glanced at the woman in the back seat who was giving him a provocative look, and his brow furrowed instinctively.
“Yunxing and I are both men. It’s inconvenient for you to stay with us,” Fu Tingzhou said, glancing at the rearview mirror and asking Mo Li, “Why isn’t Linda with you?”
“She’s been busy lately and won’t be able to come back for a few days.” Mo Li shrugged. “If I’d known it would be this busy, I wouldn’t have made her my manager.”
Fu Tingzhou smiled. “Wasn’t it you who insisted on having Linda as your manager back then?”
“Well, everyone has their youthful, reckless moments,” Mo Li said with a laugh.
The two chatted amiably, and Shen Yunxing felt completely left out. He pretended to be sleepy, resting his head against the car window and closing his eyes.
“Sweetheart, don’t sleep.” Fu Tingzhou reached out and pinched the boy’s sensitive earlobe. “Be careful not to catch a cold.”
Feeling his earlobe being pinched for the first time in front of an outsider, Shen Yunxing’s ears suddenly turned red. Realizing that the rival was watching, his otherwise serious and indifferent expression showed a hint of triumph.
Since it was still early for dinner, Mo Li dropped her luggage at the hotel, changed into warmer clothes, and returned to the car.
Shen Yunxing looked at Mo Li, now wearing an ankle-length down coat and a fluffy knit hat, and for a moment, didn’t recognize her. He couldn’t help but stare a bit longer.
“What’s wrong, don’t recognize me?” Mo Li asked with a bright smile.
Shen Yunxing didn’t respond, his gaze lingering on Mo Li’s black long hair for half a second longer.
“This is my real hair. The one earlier was fake,” Mo Li said with a boastful tone. “I have no choice. I’m so popular that it’s easy to have an accident if I don’t do some disguise.”
Fu Tingzhou laughed, “Don’t listen to her nonsense. She just gets cold easily.”
“Why do you always undermine me? Have you forgotten who helped you fend off those unwanted admirers back in college?”
“It was you,” the man said, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
Shen Yunxing listened quietly, feeling a dull ache in his heart as he saw the smile on Fu Tingzhou’s face.
11:30 AM, Liuchun Garden.
“The changes here are huge. I remember Liuchun Garden used to be a small workshop. I never imagined that after a few years, it would become one of the top restaurants in Lin’an,” Mo Li remarked as she entered the private room.
Fu Tingzhou nodded.
“Are you feeling unwell? Is the baby making trouble?” He tilted his head, gazing at Shen Yunxing’s face with a warm tone.
Shen Yunxing, thinking Mo Li was unaware of his condition, spoke in a low voice, “I’m fine, just a bit hungry.”
Upon hearing this, Fu Tingzhou rubbed the boy’s head, “The dishes will take a while to be served. I’ll have them bring out a few of your favorite snacks first.”
“Okay.”
Shen Yunxing wasn’t lying; he was genuinely a bit hungry. His stomach was growling, and the baby was unhappy because his father hadn’t eaten on time, kicking him several times. Shen Yunxing was worried that if Mr. Fu noticed, he might inadvertently reveal something in front of Mo Li, so he kept his discomfort to himself.
Once the snacks were served, he held a piece of pastry, focusing solely on satisfying the little one in his belly, forgetting about Mo Li and the others.
After the snacks, Tang Che and Liu Huaijin arrived late, braving the snowstorm.
“Wow, the snow is so heavy. I haven’t seen such heavy snow in years.” Tang Che stomped his feet to warm up and, upon seeing familiar faces in the private room, snapped his fingers in surprise. “Little Lily, you finally decided to come back!”
Mo Li rolled her eyes, “Stop being so informal. Call me sister.”
“Sister? You’re only three months older than me,” Tang Che said as he helped Liu Huaijin brush off the snow from his coat, then politely pulled out a chair for him and handed him a cup of warm water before sitting down himself.
“Interesting. I never expected the most chauvinistic person among us to become a henpecked husband,” Mo Li said, resting her chin in amusement.
“Hold on, let me correct you,” Tang Che made a ‘pause’ gesture, “This isn’t being henpecked. This is called love. Do you understand love?!”
“Alright, alright, love,” Mo Li quickly nodded, not wanting to argue about being henpecked.
“When will the food be served? I’ve been starving since the surgery started at six this morning,” Liu Huaijin said, glancing at Shen Yunxing quietly eating the snacks.
Mo Li: “It should be soon. Tingzhou has already asked about it.”
Liu Huaijin nodded.
After a while, the dishes were finally served, and everyone was so hungry that they ate in silence.
When they were almost done, Tang Che took advantage of Fu Tingzhou’s absence and gestured wildly at Mo Li. He was finally stopped from twitching by a firm kick from Liu Huaijin.
“Yunxing, can I have a word with you?” Mo Li said, putting down her chopsticks.
Shen Yunxing’s heart skipped a beat.
Here it comes—the showdown with the rival was about to begin.
He put down his half-drunk milk and nodded calmly.
“Sure.”
“I don’t think you and Tingzhou are a good match. With Tingzhou’s background and abilities, he could find someone as excellent as him to spend his life with. And you are not the best choice.”
For a moment, Shen Yunxing felt as though Mo Li had become a different person. The hostility and dissatisfaction in her eyes poured out, and even Tang Che and Liu Huaijin couldn’t distinguish whether it was real or feigned.
“I am the one who can truly stand by his side,” Mo Li said.
Shen Yunxing remained silent. He stared at Mo Li for three seconds, then asked her calmly, “Does your girlfriend know about your thoughts?”
“What?” Mo Li was confused.
“Do you love each other? Will she continue to love you the same way after knowing you like someone who is married?”
“May I ask what you like about Mr. Fu? His looks or his money? If it’s looks, I have nothing to say. Mr. Fu is the most handsome person I’ve ever seen, without exception.”
“If it’s money, you might be disappointed. If Mr. Fu were to divorce me—no, even if he just touched you, all of Mr. Fu’s assets would be transferred to my name, and you wouldn’t get a penny.”
“So, Mo Li, are you sure you want to do this? You might end up with nothing, losing both the husband and the battle.”
Shen Yunxing’s hands rested on his knees, his expression innocent and sweet, appearing harmless, while the other three in the room felt a chill down their spines.
Damn it, Tang Che said this kid was like a soft little bunny, but he’s nothing like a bunny, just looks like one!
“I like Mr. Fu himself. Even if he had no money, I would still love him,” Mo Li said, masking her shock, “Then what do you like about him? His looks or his money?”
“Both,” Shen Yunxing said without concealment.
“If Mr. Fu were a bald old man, I would still push him away that night, even if he was confused. If Mr. Fu didn’t have money, if he weren’t the owner of the Fu Group, we wouldn’t have had a chance to meet again, and I wouldn’t have fallen for him under his meticulous care.”
“A bald old man?” Mo Li laughed heartily, clutching her stomach. “Tingzhou, this is the first time I’ve seen someone compare you to a bald old man, hahahaha—”
Shen Yunxing stiffened and turned to see Fu Tingzhou standing behind him, who had appeared without his noticing. His cheeks and neck flushed bright red.
