- Chapter 75 - The Bitter Taste of Love
On the way, Shen Yunxing glanced at the small clothes and toys on the backseat, eagerly anticipating meeting the baby.
Seeing the young man squirming, Fu Tingzhou helplessly said, “Baby, sit still. We’ll look at them when we get home.”
Shen Yunxing gave him a sweet smile and said, “Okay.”
……
With five days left until the Lunar New Year, Fu Tingzhou had been even busier than before, spending the whole day in meetings. Shen Yunxing often saw him on video calls in the study in the middle of the night when he got up for water.
On the day before the Lunar New Year’s Eve, Fu Tingzhou finally gave himself a break.
“Mr. Fu, I’ve called Grandpa Tang and the others. Tomorrow, both our families will have New Year’s Eve dinner together at Liuchun Garden.”
After finishing his morning routine and completing the tasks assigned by Fu Tingzhou, Shen Yunxing went to the kitchen to report the results.
“Good boy.”
“What’s with the baby talk?” Shen Yunxing grumbled, but his expression clearly showed he was happy.
“What are you doing, Mr. Fu? Do you need any help?” He went over and cuddled up to Fu Tingzhou.
The young man was cute and clingy, and Fu Tingzhou smiled, kissing him on the lips.
“No need. I’ve finished everything. Just stay here and watch.”
“Alright.” Shen Yunxing poked at the prepared ingredients on the counter, seeing that they were all his favorites, and smiled with his eyes narrowed.
After breakfast, the couple, fully equipped, drove out to buy New Year’s goods.
The baby was seven months old, and because Shen Yunxing was quite thin, his belly looked smaller compared to other pregnant women. Wearing loose, thick clothes, it was almost impossible to tell he was pregnant.
At the mall, he wore a scarf, hat, and mask, holding Fu Tingzhou’s hand as they strolled around.
This mall wasn’t the same one where they had bought baby clothes before, so when they reached the maternity and baby section, Shen Yunxing couldn’t resist stopping at the sight of the cute and pretty little clothes.
Fu Tingzhou chuckled, pinching the young man’s finger, and said gently, “Let’s go in and have a look.”
Seeing Shen Yunxing’s eyes light up, his smile grew even wider.
“Mr. Fu, Mrs. Shen mentioned on the phone that this brand of formula is particularly good,” Shen Yunxing said, pointing to a formula on the shelf. “The due date is at the end of February, and it’s still not even January yet. Isn’t it a bit too early to buy formula now?”
“It is a bit early,” Fu Tingzhou said, smoothing down a tuft of hair on Shen Yunxing’s head. “I’ll note down the brand and take care of it later.”
“Okay.”
The two store clerks saw Fu Tingzhou’s small gesture and whispered excitedly to each other, showing visible excitement in their eyes.
Shen Yunxing’s face turned red under their gaze, and he pulled Fu Tingzhou to the back row of shelves.
Leaving the mall, besides New Year’s goods, they also bought quite a few small clothes for the baby.
On the way home, Shen Yunxing held a pink princess dress and frowned slightly.
“Mr. Fu, it seems we bought too much. Mrs. Shen said the baby will wear a different outfit each day after birth, and with so many clothes, it’s likely they won’t fit before the baby even gets a chance to wear them.”
“It’s fine,” Fu Tingzhou said with a smile, “They can be saved for the baby’s siblings.”
Shen Yunxing blinked, his face visibly reddening.
When they got home, he tirelessly placed the new clothes into the baby’s small room. Watching the once-empty nursery slowly fill up with items from himself and Fu Tingzhou, he felt immensely satisfied.
“Baby, both Daddy and Father are looking forward to your arrival,” he said, rubbing his belly and grinning foolishly.
“Baby, come down for lunch.”
“Okay, coming!”
After lunch, they took a stroll in the living room, holding hands, and then it was time for a nap.
In the bedroom, Shen Yunxing looked up, blushing slightly and shyly asked, “Mr. Fu, could you kiss me?”
Fu Tingzhou leaned down and gave him a light kiss on the forehead.
Shen Yunxing pursed his lips, gripping the fabric on Fu Tingzhou’s chest and said, “Not like that.”
“Hmm?” Fu Tingzhou asked knowingly, “Not like that? Then where does my baby want to be kissed? You need to be clear about it.”
Mr. Fu was definitely doing this on purpose!
Seeing the barely concealed smile at the corner of Fu Tingzhou’s mouth, Shen Yunxing felt both embarrassed and angry. Finally, unable to take it anymore, he lifted his head and kissed Fu Tingzhou’s lips with force, only to accidentally bump his teeth against Fu Tingzhou’s lower lip.
“Hiss—”
Seeing the blood appearing on Fu Tingzhou’s lips, Shen Yunxing froze for a second. Then, in a daze, he instinctively licked the blood away.
Fu Tingzhou raised his hand to hold the back of Shen Yunxing’s head, laughing and saying, “Baby, are you turning into a vampire?”
Shen Yunxing paused for a moment, then buried his head in Fu Tingzhou’s neck, feeling too embarrassed to speak.
“Don’t you want to be kissed?” Fu Tingzhou pinched the young man’s flushed earlobe, his voice filled with amusement.
The young man in his arms didn’t respond, and just when Fu Tingzhou thought Shen Yunxing had fallen asleep, he suddenly heard the young man’s soft voice say, “Yes.”
Shen Yunxing looked up at the bewildered Fu Tingzhou, blushing again as he said, “Yes.”
Although he couldn’t practice the “Nine Most Comfortable Positions in Love” with Mr. Fu right now, he was determined to experience the “Eight Correct Ways to Kiss”!
The young man’s blushing, seeking-kiss appearance was so adorable that Fu Tingzhou’s heart softened. Holding Shen Yunxing’s waist, he changed their positions.
He leaned his forehead against Shen Yunxing’s, his voice deep and hoarse: “Baby, remember to breathe.”
“Wait, mmm—”
—
Wait a moment, he still hasn’t told Mr. Fu the eight correct ways to kiss QAQ!
A moment later, Shen Yunxing couldn’t recall any of the correct methods or positions. He felt like he was drifting at sea, dizzy from Mr. Fu’s kisses. He instinctively clung to Mr. Fu’s neck, unconsciously wanting more.
……
“Lie down on the sofa for a while, I’ll tidy up.”
Fu Tingzhou carried the young man to the sofa and kissed his flushed lips.
Feeling embarrassed doing this in broad daylight, Shen Yunxing’s face was burning. He closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep, trying to ignore Mr. Fu’s deliberately soft laughter, which made his ears burn even more.
After changing the sheets and pillowcases, Fu Tingzhou came back to find Shen Yunxing with half his face covered by the blanket, exhausted and asleep.
He smiled slightly and gently carried the young man back to bed.
In the afternoon, Shen Yunxing’s embarrassment about their daytime declarations of love hadn’t subsided. While sitting on the sofa with Mr. Fu, reading a book, his eyes frequently darted toward the man.
The more he peeked, the more vividly the unclothed figures in his mind fought, making his neck and cheeks flush. He couldn’t focus on the book at all. It was all Mr. Fu’s fault for being so good-looking.
Shen Yunxing used the book to cover his flushed cheeks, grumbling in his mind, but the smile in his eyes grew deeper.
……
On New Year’s Eve, the couple first visited Shen’s parents and then drove to Liuchun Garden to meet with Grandpa Tang and the others.
“Grandpa Tang, you look so energetic in this outfit today.” Upon arriving at the private room, Shen Yunxing sweet-talked Grandpa Tang, making him smile from ear to ear.
“Grandpa got up early this morning to get ready for tonight’s New Year’s Eve dinner,” Tang Che said, nudging Fu Tingzhou’s shoulder. “At his age, he’s even more vain than a young girl.”
Fu Tingzhou kept his gaze on the young man chatting with Grandpa Tang and asked, “Did you upset Grandpa Tang again?”
“I didn’t make him angry,” Tang Che said, then suddenly laughed and leaned in mysteriously. “Grandpa Tang has been through the bitterness of love.”
Hearing this, Fu Tingzhou finally allowed his gaze to shift.
“A while ago, Grandpa Tang started an online romance with a lady. They chatted a lot, played chess together, and even watched movies online. He was more diligent than me in keeping up with the calls.”
Fu Tingzhou replied, “It’s good if Grandpa Tang finds a companion.”
“I thought so too, so I suggested he meet the lady in person. After all, online romance isn’t ideal. Guess what happened?” Tang Che tried to tease, but upon seeing Fu Tingzhou’s look, immediately clapped and said, “Grandpa Tang was stood up by the lady!”
“When Grandpa Tang called to ask why she didn’t come, the lady said her family is from the countryside and she was afraid Grandpa Tang wouldn’t like her because of the difference.”
“Is Grandpa Tang that kind of person? He immediately transferred her 2,000 yuan to cover her travel expenses.”
“She accepted it, but then she said her clothes were too shabby, and she was afraid Grandpa Tang wouldn’t like them. She wanted to buy new clothes in the city before meeting him.”
At this point, Fu Tingzhou understood, “Grandpa Tang was scammed?”
“Of course, it’s a scam for both heart and money. It’s just cruel!” Tang Che clicked his tongue. “Grandpa Tang was quite a figure in his youth. Now, learning about online romance in old age, he thought he could have a sunset romance, but he ended up being deceived. How can he not be angry?”
“Alright, it’s New Year’s, let’s not bring this up in front of Grandpa Tang,” Fu Tingzhou said.
Tang Che huffed, “I usually like to tease Grandpa Tang, but I wouldn’t be so unfilial.”
Fu Tingzhou nodded perfunctorily, busy picking fish bones for the young man.
“Henpecked husband,” Tang Che muttered quietly.
He watched the couple happily showing off their love and couldn’t help but pull out his phone to send a [kiss] to his own wife.
“Father-in-law, Yunshu is a great kid. He handles things calmly and seems reliable.” Grandpa Tang changed the subject, “Does he have a partner?”
“Cough, cough, cough——”
Upon hearing this, Shen Yunxing couldn’t help but cough.
“Oops, what happened? Did you get a fish bone stuck?” Grandpa Tang asked worriedly.
“I’m fine, Grandpa, I just choked from eating too fast.” Shen Yunxing glanced at his brother.
“It’s okay, eat slowly. If you want anything, let Tingzhou help you.”
“Got it, Grandpa.”
“This kid, he was so smart before. Why has he become so clumsy since being pregnant?” Shen Mu complained, though her smile didn’t fade. “Fortunately, Xiao Fu is smart; otherwise, he wouldn’t even know he’s being scammed.”
“Mom, I scored over 600 on the college entrance exam and was the top in the Yunxi drama performance major,” Shen Yunxing protested with a wrinkled nose.
Fu Tingzhou patted the young man’s head, his eyes full of affection. “Yes, very impressive.”
Shen Yunxing stopped wrinkling his nose and happily continued eating the fish that Mr. Fu picked for him.
Seeing her son so easily pacified by her son-in-law, Shen Mu felt both gratified and a bit wistful.
“Mom, Yunxing is very happy now,” Shen Yunshu said, squeezing Shen Mu’s shoulder.
Shen Mu sighed, “Yes, I know. It’s just a bit sentimental. That little child from back then now has his own family, and in a month, he’ll be a dad.”
“Let’s not talk about this. Grandpa Tang just asked me what I wanted to ask too. You’re turning 29 this New Year. When do you plan to find a daughter-in-law for me?”
In an instant, everyone’s gaze shifted to Shen Yunshu.
Shen Yunxing stopped eating ribs and nervously looked at his brother.
Hearing Shen Mu’s words, Shen Yunshu’s expression stiffened slightly. He quickly composed himself, tugged at his lips, and said with a smile, “Soon.”
“Do you have someone you like?” Grandpa Tang asked, looking intrigued. “It’s a pity, I have a granddaughter who just returned from abroad. I was thinking of introducing you to her.”
Granddaughter? Doesn’t Grandpa Tang only have one grandson, Tang Che? Where did this granddaughter come from?
Shen Yunxing, gnawing on ribs, looked at his own Mr. Fu in confusion.
“Molly,” Fu Tingzhou said with a smile.
Molly? She has a girlfriend.
Shen Yunxing blinked, thinking Grandpa Tang really loves to mix and match couples.
“Father-in-law and mother-in-law, come on, it’s a happy day, let’s have a toast together.” Grandpa Tang raised his glass.
—
Shen Yunxing also raised his milk cup, clinking it with everyone else’s. After sitting back down, he clinked glasses with Mr. Fu and then leaned in to whisper, “Mr. Fu, from now on, I will spend every New Year’s Eve with you and our baby.”
Mr. Fu’s heart softened at the young man’s words.
Under the table, he took the young man’s hand and replied softly, “Okay.”
……
After the New Year, Fu Tingzhou took the young man to Liu Huaijin for an examination.
Since the physical structure of a pregnant man differs from that of a pregnant woman, natural childbirth wasn’t possible. A cesarean section was the only option to deliver the baby. Additionally, to ensure the health of the pregnant man, the baby couldn’t be too large, as it might compress internal organs and increase the risk of complications during surgery.
Thus, the originally scheduled due date at the end of March was moved up by a month to February 28th.
“How is it?” Fu Tingzhou asked his friend after the examination.
“There’s no issue. Just come back a few days before the surgery for another check-up,” Liu Huaijin said.
Shen Yunxing tidied his clothes with a flushed face and thanked him, “Thank you, Dr. Liu.”
“No need to be polite. But there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you,” Liu Huaijin said.
“What is it?” Shen Yunxing looked up with a hint of confusion.
“Why do you always call me Dr. Liu, but call Tang Che ‘Brother Tang’?” Liu Huaijin asked with a smile. “If I’m not mistaken, we’ve known each other for a longer time than he has.”
Shen Yunxing was momentarily stunned, not expecting this question. He blinked and awkwardly rubbed his nose with his hand.
“It’s because I was particularly afraid of getting shots when I was young. I would cry for a long time whenever I saw doctors or nurses. Later, as I grew up, I developed a bit of a fear of doctors.”
Liu Huaijin nodded. “You have a psychological scar from it.”
Before leaving, Fu Tingzhou consulted Professor Chen, who was an expert in male pregnancy, about some precautions, and then he took the young man’s hand and left.
On February 4th, Valentine’s Day, the couple stayed in and didn’t go out. That evening, Fu Tingzhou prepared a candlelit dinner, which moved the young man to tears. He cried as he threw himself into Mr. Fu’s arms and planted several wet kisses on his face.
“Be good, don’t cry.” Fu Tingzhou kissed the young man’s lips and smiled to comfort him.
“I’m not crying.” Shen Yunxing buried his face in Mr. Fu’s arms and rubbed against him.
He hugged the man’s neck, feeling extremely embarrassed but still mustering the courage to ask, “Mr. Fu, did you see the pictures I sent you yesterday?”
Upon hearing this, Fu Tingzhou’s hand, which was stroking the young man’s hair, paused momentarily.
After a moment, he spoke in a slightly hoarse voice, “Darling, you’re still pregnant.”
“Positions like 1, 3, 6, 7, and 9 aren’t possible, but other positions should be fine,” the young man’s voice was as light as a mosquito’s buzz. “Mr. Fu, be gentle. It won’t be a problem…”
Feeling completely embarrassed, Shen Yunxing’s face was flushed, and even his toes curled in shame.
Fu Tingzhou wasn’t a saint; seeing the young man take the initiative to this extent, he couldn’t remain indifferent. He kissed the young man’s forehead, then slipped his hands under the young man’s neck and knees, lifting him up horizontally.
“Ah!” Shen Yunxing exclaimed as his body was suddenly lifted off the ground.
He quickly wrapped his arms around Mr. Fu’s neck, thinking about what was about to happen, his face turned bright red.
……
On February 5th, Lantern Festival, the couple didn’t return to their home in Seine-et-Marne but went to Tang Grandpa’s place in Wucheng Mountain.
Liu Huaijin was there as well, along with Molly and her girlfriend, who was five years younger than her.
When Shen Yunxing met Linda for the first time, he couldn’t help but observe her closely.
She had a neat short haircut, and her features were delicate and well-defined, especially her nose bridge and eye sockets, which made her look a bit mixed-race and particularly beautiful.
Later, Shen Yunxing learned that Linda was of mixed Chinese and British heritage. Her father was a famous British opera singer, and her mother was a top domestic actress. She and Molly had chosen to develop their careers abroad due to their parents’ disapproval.
