Chapter 95: Zhou Zhou Gets His Tooth Filled
“Shen Xingting, Gege is back!” Four-and-a-half-year-old Zhou Zhou kicked off his little shoes as soon as he entered the house, his short legs wobbling as he ran and shouted.
“Gege.” Little Shen Xingting, drinking from a milk bottle, showed an adorable smile on his little face, which looked just like Daddy Fu’s.
“Gege bought you some yummy candies today.” Zhou Zhou knelt on the carpet, took out two candies from his little backpack, unwrapped a grape-flavored one, and stuffed it into his little brother’s mouth.
“You can only have one, though. Eating too much will ruin your teeth,” he said to his brother.
Zhou Zhou nodded, putting down his bottle to focus on eating the candy Gege gave him.
“Fu Xingzhou, did you give your brother candy again?!” Shen Yunxing came into the room after changing his shoes. The fruity smell of candy hit him, and a vein on his forehead throbbed.
Zhou Zhou flinched and quickly stuffed the candy wrapper back into his backpack.
“I didn’t! I didn’t!” He shook his head, hiding his hands behind his back.
Shen Yunxing gave him a stern look. “Lying means you won’t be able to marry Junjun in the future.”
Zhou Zhou’s eyes widened, and then his face crumpled as he admitted, “Daddy, Zhou Zhou was wrong.”
“Zhou Zhou.” Shen Yunxing deliberately kept a straight face. “Didn’t Daddy tell you not to eat so much candy, and not to give so much candy to your brother either?”
Zhou Zhou wrung his hands, his fingers nervously picking at his palm. “You did. Daddy, don’t be angry. Zhou Zhou knows he was wrong.”
Shen Yunxing reached out his hand. “Come here. Daddy wants to check your teeth.”
The little guy reluctantly walked over to his daddy and obediently opened his mouth.
“Ah—”
Shen Yunxing held his son’s chin and examined his teeth under the light.
A moment later, he frowned and called over his husband. “Ge, stop standing at the door and come see your precious son. He’s got cavities now. No wonder he keeps saying his teeth hurt.”
Fu Tingzhou, catching his son’s pleading gaze, spread his hands helplessly.
Daddy was the boss at home, so he had to follow Daddy’s orders too.
With no one left to help him, the little guy had no choice but to open his mouth again and let Daddy inspect his cavities.
“Your son will need a filling, right?” Shen Yunxing said, picking up Zhou Zhou’s little brother, who had been enjoying the show on the carpet.
Zhou Zhou didn’t know what getting a filling meant. He opened his mouth wide, curiously watching his two dads.
Fu Tingzhou nodded. “Yes, I’ll call the dentist later. Tomorrow is Saturday, so I can go with him.”
“Okay.”
“My little darling, you can close your mouth now.” Fu Tingzhou wiped away his son’s drool and pinched his little nose. “From now on, no more giving candy to your brother, or Daddy will really get angry and spank you. And Daddy won’t step in to protect you.”
“Got it.” Zhou Zhou snuck a glance at his still-“angry” Daddy, then took small steps over to him.
“Daddy, don’t be mad at Zhou Zhou anymore. I won’t secretly give candy to my brother again.” The little guy tugged at Daddy’s sleeve and pleaded pitifully.
“No spanking,” little Shen Xingting suddenly said, speaking for the first time. “No spanking Gege.”
At a year and a half, his speech wasn’t entirely clear yet, but his little face turned serious as he exclaimed, “No spanking!”
Shen Yunxing sighed. Even before their second child was born, he’d had a close bond with Gege. After he was born, he turned into a full-fledged big brother fan. When Gege wasn’t home, the little one rarely talked, only making noise when he was thirsty, hungry, or needed a bathroom break.
Now, he had only tried to scare his eldest a little without saying anything too harsh, and the little one was already stepping up to defend him.
“No spanking. Daddy didn’t say he was going to spank Gege.” With that, he pulled his eldest into a hug and kissed him on the cheek.
The little one was happy now, a smile spreading across his previously stern little face.
After dinner that night, the two brothers sat on the floor. One was bent over doing homework, and the other was leaning against Gege’s leg, drinking milk. He’d take a sip, look up at Gege, take another sip, and then glance up again, sticking close to him.
“Baby, go write at your desk,” Shen Yunxing said as he brought the boys some cut fruit, noticing how awkwardly Zhou Zhou was lying on the floor.
“No desk,” Zhou Zhou said, patting his brother’s hair. “The desk is too high. My brother won’t be able to see Zhou Zhou.”
The little one, who was drinking milk, beamed up at Gege when he heard his name.
“Gege, drink.” He stretched out his small arms, offering his milk bottle to Gege.
Zhou Zhou shook his head, squinting his eyes like a little adult. “Gege doesn’t drink. You drink it yourself. Be good.”
The little one nodded and brought the bottle back to himself.
Shen Yunxing chuckled, kissing the foreheads of his two precious sons before sitting on the sofa to talk to his husband about the dental appointment for Zhou Zhou’s filling the next day.
“Zhou Zhou’s cavity isn’t too serious. It should be fixed quickly, right?” He couldn’t help but worry, thinking about how afraid his son was of doctors.
Fu Tingzhou pulled the younger man into his arms and reassured him with a smile. “Don’t worry. I’ve already called in reinforcements.”
Shen Yunxing blinked. “Is Junjun coming?”
“Yes. Qin Jingchen said he and Su Yin plan to buy an apartment in our neighborhood, so the two kids won’t have to cry every time they part.”
“Daddy, is Junjun coming?!” Zhou Zhou, who had been eavesdropping on their conversation, perked up instantly.
Seeing his son’s bright, sparkling eyes, Fu Tingzhou chuckled and nodded.
“Yay! That’s great! Now I can see Junjun every day!” Zhou Zhou was overjoyed and hugged his little brother, planting several kisses on his forehead.
The poor little one thought Gege was so happy because of him. He covered his kissed forehead, blushing as he smiled shyly.
By eight o’clock, the two little ones were already in bed. The younger one loved Gege so much that since he turned one, the couple had arranged for both boys to stay in the children’s room.
Although there were two beds, the little one always slept with Gege. The other bed had become a spot for their Q-version plush toys of the family of four, plus Junjun.
The next morning at eight, Zhou Zhou was dragged out of bed by Daddy.
“Daddy, Zhou Zhou is sleepy,” the little guy grumbled, rubbing his eyes unhappily.
“You went to bed at eight last night. Are you sure?” Shen Yunxing rubbed his son’s head. “Did you secretly call Junjun again?”
Zhou Zhou: “!!”
How did Daddy know? He had hidden under the blanket to call Junjun and spoken very softly. He didn’t even wake his brother!
He peeked out from under the blanket, guiltily glancing at Daddy.
Shen Yunxing smiled. “Did you forget that there are little eyes in this house?”
Zhou Zhou’s eyes widened.
He had forgotten, QAQ.
“Alright, Daddy isn’t mad at you,” Shen Yunxing said, kissing his son. “But no more late-night calls to Junjun, okay? Be a good boy and sleep.”
“Okay, Daddy. Zhou Zhou understands~” The little guy pounced into Daddy’s arms, rubbing against him affectionately.
Just then, the younger one woke up. He slowly crawled out of bed, climbed into Daddy’s arms, and kissed him on the neck before doing the same to Gege.
“Daddy, Gege,” the little one said sleepily. “Where’s Papa?”
Although he spoke little and adored Gege the most, he still loved Daddy and Papa. Unless they were away on business trips, he never skipped their morning kisses.
“Papa is making breakfast,” Shen Yunxing said, hugging his two precious sons and kissing them in turn. “Get up. Breakfast will be ready soon.”
“Okay~” the two little ones responded sweetly.
The kids didn’t need any help getting dressed. Although the younger one was slower, he could still manage on his own.
Once the three of them were ready, Shen Yunxing held their hands and went downstairs.
“I was just about to call you.” Seeing them come down, Fu Tingzhou smiled. “Come eat.”
“Papa!” The little one let go of Daddy’s hand and waddled over to Papa.
Fu Tingzhou bent down to let his son kiss his cheek, then picked him up and placed him in the high chair.
“Zhou Zhou, no picky eating.” During breakfast, Shen Yunxing noticed Zhou Zhou picking out the carrots from his bowl.
“Gege, I’ll eat it,” the little one said, offering his bowl to Gege.
“Chuanchuan, you still have some in your own bowl.” Shen Yunxing put on a stern face to scare his younger son. “Gege’s teeth are bad because he was picky about food and ate too much candy. What you’re doing isn’t helping Gege; it’s hurting him. Do you understand?”
Little Chuanchuan was startled.
Although he was young, he resembled his dad, Fu Tingzhou, both in appearance and personality. Even his intelligence took after his dad. At only a year and a half, he understood a lot of things. As long as his dads didn’t use overly complicated words, the little one could grasp their meaning.
Now, realizing that his good intentions had backfired, Chuanchuan silently moved his bowl back in front of himself. Thoughtfully, he picked up a chopstick full of shredded carrots and placed it into Gege’s bowl.
“Gege, eat,” he said, tilting his little face upward to urge him.
Zhouzhou, who absolutely hates the taste of carrots, stared wide-eyed at his little brother.
“Bad Chuanchuan, I don’t want to talk to you all day today! QAQ!”
Shen Yunxing looked at his aggrieved but obedient son, who still ate the carrot despite his displeasure, and turned to Mr. Fu with a triumphant smile.
Fu Tingzhou chuckled and casually ate the shredded carrot the young man had slipped into his bowl while the little ones weren’t looking.
After breakfast, the family of four drove to the hospital.
“Daddy, does getting a cavity filled hurt? Zhouzhou is scared. Can you ask the doctor auntie and uncle to be gentle?” On the way to the hospital, Zhouzhou clung to his dad’s neck, his eyes red with fear.
Little Chuanchuan, in Shen Yunxing’s arms, noticed his elder brother’s distress. He stretched out his tiny hand to wipe Zhouzhou’s tears.
“Gege, don’t cry,” the little one said in his soft, milky voice.
Zhouzhou rubbed his eyes, turned his little body, and retorted awkwardly, “Who’s crying? I’m not crying.”
He was about to start kindergarten; he was a big kid now. Brother Chengcheng had said big kids shouldn’t cry so easily. Besides, he was going to marry Junjun in the future. As the breadwinner of the family, how could he cry? But he was still so scared—sniff, sniff, QAQ.
Clinging tightly to his dad’s neck, he pressed his small body against his father.
He was already so scared before they even got to the hospital. Once they started filling his cavity, he would probably turn into a little crying mess.
Shen Yunxing stroked his son’s head lovingly and said gently, “Baby, Junjun will also be there to see the dentist with you today. As Gege, shouldn’t you be brave and set a good example for your little brothers?”
Zhouzhou froze for a moment.
“Junjun is coming too?” he asked.
Shen Yunxing nodded. “Yes, he is.”
Zhouzhou lowered his head, swung his little feet for a while, then pursed his lips and said softly, “Zhouzhou is Gege. I have to be brave. Zhouzhou isn’t scared at all.”
Through the rearview mirror, Fu Tingzhou glanced at their eldest son, who had been successfully persuaded by his mother, and couldn’t help but smile.
Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the hospital.
When Shen Yunxing got out of the car, he saw his son still sitting inside. He bent down and said, “Zhouzhou, we’re here.”
“Daddy,” the little one pouted, his voice tinged with a sob, “Zhouzhou’s legs feel weak. I can’t walk QAQ.”
Shen Yunxing wanted to laugh but held back for the sake of his son’s dignity.
“Daddy will carry you,” he said, scooping up his son.
Ahead of Zhouzhou was another child visiting the dentist. The child had severe cavities, and the doctor suggested root canal treatment. However, the child’s grandmother refused, saying that baby teeth didn’t need to be treated since they would fall out eventually.
The female doctor patiently explained to the grandmother.
Many parents believe children don’t need to treat cavities, but this is a misconception. Adult teeth grow beneath baby teeth. If baby teeth fall out due to cavities, the new teeth may also be prone to cavities and might grow in misaligned, potentially requiring braces later.
Unfortunately, the grandmother wouldn’t listen and even started yelling that the hospital was trying to scam them. The child, frightened by the commotion, cried loudly. Eventually, the embarrassed mother left with the child in tears.
Hearing the crying, Zhouzhou shrank deeper into his father’s arms. “Daddy, why is that little Gege crying so much?” he asked nervously. “Is it because it hurts?”
Before Shen Yunxing could come up with a way to reassure his son, the dentist called out, “Fu Xingzhou, it’s your turn!”
Zhouzhou flinched and clung tightly to his dads, refusing to budge from his seat.
“Daddy, Papa, when is Junjun coming? Zhouzhou wants to go with Junjun,” he said in a trembling voice. Just as he finished, he heard Junjun’s voice.
“Zhouzhou!” Qin Yanjun ran over, letting go of his mother’s hand, and grabbed Zhouzhou’s hand.
“Zhouzhou, don’t be scared,” he said in a comforting tone, standing on tiptoe to pat Zhouzhou’s fluffy hair.
“Junjun… waaah—” The moment Zhouzhou saw Junjun, he burst into tears, wailing loudly.
“Zhouzhou, don’t cry. Junjun is here,” Qin Yanjun said like a little adult, hugging Zhouzhou to comfort him.
Seeing his elder brother so close to someone else, Chuanchuan, who was still in Papa’s arms, became unhappy. He wriggled out of his father’s embrace and ran over to Zhouzhou, hugging him tightly.
“Gege, Chuanchuan is here!” he said, glaring unhappily at Qin Yanjun with his little face turned up.
Qin Yanjun, equally displeased with Chuanchuan, held onto Zhouzhou’s hand and said, “Zhouzhou, don’t be scared. Junjun will stay with you.”
Zhouzhou felt a bit embarrassed. After wiping away his tears, his face turned red, and he shyly nodded.
It didn’t matter; he was still young. When he grew up, he would be a dependable husband!
Seeing their son finally willing to go to the dentist, Shen Yunxing gratefully said to Su Yin, “Su Jie, thank you for bringing Junjun. Otherwise, we don’t know how long we’d have to coax him.”
Su Yin waved it off. “It’s nothing. Junjun was complaining of a toothache last night, so I thought I’d bring him in too.”
So the two little ones held hands and went in to see the dentist, with a one-and-a-half-year-old “tagalong” trailing behind them, looking unhappy about their clasped hands.
“Chuanchuan, come to Papa. Gege is going to see the dentist,” Fu Tingzhou called, extending his hand to his son.
The little one paused, glanced at Papa, then at Gege, and hesitated for a while before finally running back into Papa’s arms.
“Papa, auntie is hitting Gege!” Chuanchuan tugged at his father’s shirt, urging him to save his “beaten” brother.
Su Yin couldn’t help but laugh. “So this little guy came back to get reinforcements, huh?”
The couple also couldn’t hold back their laughter.
“Chuanchuan, no one is hitting Gege. The auntie is helping Gege fix his teeth. If bad teeth aren’t treated, they’ll hurt,” Shen Yunxing explained, kissing his youngest son.
“What about Junjun?” the little one asked, pointing at Qin Yanjun, who was lying beside Zhouzhou.
“Junjun is also getting his teeth checked,” Shen Yunxing replied.
“Chuanchuan wants to too!”
“But you don’t have cavities, so you don’t need to see the doctor.”
The little one frowned. “I want to.”
Unable to argue with his youngest, Shen Yunxing gave up and let Fu Tingzhou handle it.
“Chuanchuan, after Gege is done, Papa will take you all to ride the carousel. How about that?” Fu Tingzhou suggested, ruffling his son’s hair.
The little one knew his elder brother loved the carousel, and the mention of it immediately grabbed his attention.
“Chuanchuan will treat Gege!” he declared, patting his small chest.
Fu Tingzhou smiled. “Alright, but you’ll use your New Year’s money to treat him.”
“Not Junjun!”
“If Junjun wants to ride, let his mom pay for it.”
Chuanchuan nodded firmly. “Mm!”
No way he’d treat Junjun to the carousel; Junjun was trying to steal his Gege!
Chuanchuan’s angry face: jpg.
With their youngest pacified, the couple turned their attention back to their eldest son, who was undergoing his dental check-up.
“Fu Xingzhou’s case isn’t too severe; just a simple filling will do,” the dentist said before turning to Junjun with a smile. “Qin Yanjun’s teeth are in great shape, no issues at all.”
Su Yin was confused. “That’s not right. He was complaining of pain just last night…”
“Qin Yanjun! You tricked your mother again!”
Only now did she realize her son wasn’t in pain at all—he had faked it just to come to the hospital to see his “husband”!
Getting a filling doesn’t hurt much, but dental tools can be intimidating, even to adults. For Zhouzhou, who already had a fear of dentists, it was almost unbearable.
“Daddy, Papa, Zhouzhou doesn’t want to get a filling, waaah—” he cried.
“It’s okay; it won’t hurt at all. Trust Auntie, okay?” the dentist said kindly, holding a low-speed drill.
But to Zhouzhou, she looked like a demon holding an electric drill. Terrified, he squeezed his eyes shut.
“Waaah, no auntie! I want uncle!” He pointed to the male dentist outside the window who was retrieving some files.
Caught off guard by the sudden attention, Dr. Jiang paused mid-action.
“What’s going on?”
Before the female doctor could respond, Zhouzhou spoke first, stretching out his little hand and pitifully calling out, “Uncle.”
Director Jiang, who was generally not popular with children, was thrilled to see a child finally willing to approach him.
“Where did this little one come from? How can he be so adorable?” He walked around the window, entered the room, and replaced the female doctor.
Zhouzhou stared at Uncle Jiang’s handsome face and suddenly didn’t feel as scared anymore.
“Zhouzhou is Daddy and Papa’s baby,” he said shyly.
“Really?” Director Jiang praised him without hesitation, “What a smart little one.”
Shen Yunxing looked at his eldest son, who was now chatting with the doctor, and twitched the corners of his mouth.
“Brother, your son is truly committed to being a member of the Appearance Association—even for a filling, he has to pick someone handsome.”
Fu Tingzhou chuckled and shook his head.
“Zhouzhou, Junjun will stay with you!” On Zhouzhou’s left, the forgotten Qin Yanjun pursed his lips and said.
“Gege, Junjun will stay!” Chuanchuan, overhearing this, tugged at his papa’s clothes and demanded to be carried over.
Su Yin crossed her arms and smirked. “Oh wow, what a dramatic love triangle we have here.”
