Chapter 97: Fu Xingzhou vs. Qin Yanjun
“Junjun, can you sleep over at my house tonight?” On the way home, Fu Xingzhou held his wife’s hand and asked pitifully.
Qin Yanjun hesitated for a moment before nodding, “Sure.”
“Yay!” Fu Xingzhou made a victory sign and scooted closer to his wife.
Seeing him so happy, Qin Yanjun’s cool little face softened into a smile. He then took out his phone to call his parents.
“Hello? Son, did your godfather pick you up? When are you coming home? I’ve made something delicious for you,” Su Yin’s gentle voice came through after the call connected.
Qin Yanjun paused for a moment before replying, “Mom, I’m staying at Zhouzhou’s house tonight. I won’t be coming back.”
Su Yin: “Not coming back?! I’ve been away filming for months, and after not seeing me for so long, you don’t even miss your mom? Heartless! Don’t bother coming back anymore!”
“Is Auntie Su mad?” Fu Xingzhou, overhearing the conversation, shrank his neck and asked Qin Yanjun in a low voice.
Qin Yanjun shook his head and reached out to pat his head like a little adult.
“Mom, Zhouzhou fainted today. I want to stay over at Godfather’s house to keep him company tonight. I’ll come back tomorrow to keep you company. Is that okay?” Though not yet twelve, his voice was still childish, but his tone was mature beyond his years.
On the other end, Su Yin, who had been lounging on the sofa scolding her son a moment ago, immediately sat up straight.
“Zhouzhou fainted? What happened? Is it serious? Are you at the central hospital? I’ll change and come over right away!”
“Mom, wait. We’re already home,” Qin Yanjun replied with a hint of helplessness. “Zhouzhou’s fine. The doctor said it was just a lack of exercise.”
“I see. Then I’m relieved.” Su Yin sighed in relief and continued while getting dressed, “Tell your godfather not to make too many dishes. I’ve got ribs and braised pork. I’ll bring them over to share.”
“Got it.”
“Godfather, my mom is coming over with ribs and braised pork. She says not to cook too much,” Qin Yanjun informed Fu Tingzhou, who was driving.
Fu Tingzhou: “Alright.”
Hearing there would be ribs and braised pork, Fu Xingzhou happily swung their joined hands.
Half an hour later, after being stuck in traffic for ages, the three finally arrived home.
“Why are you so late? I’ve been waiting outside for over half an hour,” Su Yin said as she leaned against the elevator door. When she saw Zhouzhou coming out, she straightened up immediately. “Zhouzhou, let Auntie take a look at you.”
“Auntie Su,” Fu Xingzhou called sweetly, tilting his little face up.
“Aw.” Su Yin cupped Zhouzhou’s face in her hands and kissed his cheek. “Poor thing, fainting like that. From now on, let Junjun take you on morning runs. Get your body strong, and you won’t faint again.”
“Oh.” Classmate Fu Xingzhou, who didn’t want to run in the mornings, answered with a sulky face.
“When does Yunxing wrap up filming?” Su Yin asked Fu Tingzhou after they got home. “Are you planning to tell him about Zhouzhou fainting?”
After changing his clothes, Fu Tingzhou replied, “The day after tomorrow. I’ll tell him when he’s back.”
Su Yin nodded. “If he finds out, he might hop on a plane and fly back overnight.”
“By the way, where’s Chuanchuan? Why haven’t I seen him?”
Normally, when his brother came home, the little one would rush out to cling to his brother’s legs and act spoiled.
“I asked Secretary Yang to take him to the amusement park. He should be back soon.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the doorbell rang.
“They’re back,” Su Yin said with a smile as she went to open the door. The little guy had barely stepped inside and hadn’t even changed his shoes when he saw his brother sitting on the sofa. His large eyes, so much like Fu Tingzhou’s, lit up instantly.
“Brother!” Chuanchuan kicked off his shoes and ran over, throwing his arms around his brother in a big hug.
“Little Chuanchuan.” Fu Xingzhou pinched his younger brother’s chubby cheeks. “You’ve gotten even fatter. I can’t even carry you anymore.”
Chuanchuan: Shocked.jpg.
“I’ll lose weight! Tomorrow I won’t eat so much!”
“Hahaha, I’m kidding.”
Classmate Shen Xinting wasn’t angry at all and laughed along. Mid-laugh, he noticed Qin Yanjun sitting next to his brother and immediately widened his eyes.
“What are you doing here!” Uh-oh, this person is here to steal his brother again!
“Chuanchuan, be polite. Call him brother,” Fu Xingzhou sternly instructed.
Shen Xinting pouted and reluctantly called out, “Brother.”
“Hm.”
Shen Xinting felt like this person was provoking him. Why did he have to respond so loudly? Was he challenging me?!
He clung to his brother’s arm, glaring warily at Qin Yanjun, who seemed determined to steal his brother away.
“The three of them get along well,” Su Yin said with a smile.
Fu Tingzhou glanced at his younger son and Qin Yanjun, who seemed to be at odds, and chuckled. “They do.”
Well enough that if Zhouzhou weren’t around, they’d probably start fighting.
Half an hour later, Qin Jingchen rushed home from work just in time for dinner.
“Uncle Qin,” Fu Xingzhou greeted sweetly, his brother-loving little brother also following suit.
“How’s Zhouzhou feeling?” Qin Jingchen asked with concern.
Fu Xingzhou smiled. “I’m fine! The doctor said I just need more exercise from now on.”
“Good. Tomorrow, let Junjun take you on a morning run. Don’t run too long at first—just a half-hour jog will do.”
Fu Xingzhou: “…”
Dazed.jpg.
“It’s okay. I’ll run with you,” Qin Yanjun said, tugging gently at Zhouzhou’s sleeve to reassure him.
Shen Xinting patted his chest. “Brother, I’ll run with you too!” As he spoke, he shot a fierce glare at Qin Yanjun’s hand holding his brother’s sleeve.
“Alright.” Fu Xingzhou smiled at Qin Yanjun, then turned to his younger brother with a serious face. “But you’re out. You sleep like a little pig in the mornings. By the time we wake you up, it’ll already be lunchtime.”
“Brother, you have to believe me! Tomorrow morning, I’ll definitely get up!” Shen Xinting pouted, determined to prove himself.
“Okay, I’ll call you for the run tomorrow,” Fu Xingzhou replied perfunctorily. He knew this guy would never wake up in time!
After dinner, Su Yin and her husband went home. Shen Xinting noticed Qin Yanjun still hanging around and felt a warning bell ringing in his mind.
“Papa, Junjun and I are going upstairs to do homework,” Fu Xingzhou said.
Fu Tingzhou nodded. “Go ahead.”
When his brother and the intruder headed upstairs, Shen Xinting quickly followed.
“Papa, I’m going to do my homework too!” And keep an eye on this Qin guy—if he dares to kiss my brother, I’ll punch him!
The brothers’ small study was right next to Fu Tingzhou’s. Qin Yanjun had been here many times. He pushed the door open and sat in his usual spot. Just as he took out his workbook, Shen Xinting came in with his little backpack.
“Chuanchuan?” Fu Xingzhou looked up. “Are you doing homework here too?”
“Yes.” Shen Xinting nodded. He had to keep an eye on this thief who wanted to steal his brother away!
“If you have trouble with any questions, you can ask me or Junjun, okay?” Fu Xingzhou said.
“Okay.” Shen Xinting gave his brother an impossibly sweet smile, which vanished the moment he turned to glare at Qin Yanjun.
The study was spacious, so the three of them worked quietly without disturbing one another.
“Junjun, is this problem correct?” Fu Xingzhou brought his workbook over to show Qin Yanjun.
“It’s correct, but the one above it isn’t. You were too careless and forgot the decimal point,” Qin Yanjun replied.
Fu Xingzhou pursed his lips, smiling sheepishly. “Got it.”
Shen Xinting frowned as he watched the two discuss math problems.
Discussing is fine, but do they have to sit so close?
Irritated, he bit down on his pen cap.
“Chuanchuan, don’t bite pens,” Fu Xingzhou scolded.
“Oh.” Shen Xinting fiddled with the pen cap, his eyes darting around as an idea struck him.
“Brother, I have a question too. Can you help me with it?” He walked over with his workbook.
“Which one? Let me see.” Fu Xingzhou glanced at the workbook, then handed it back.
“You’re amazing, Chuanchuan. You got everything right—not a single mistake!”
Shen Xinting: “…”
Why did the teacher give such easy questions?! I finished them all
Why did the teacher give such simple questions?! He could solve them at a glance and unknowingly finished all his homework QAQ!
Shen Xinting stared blankly at his workbook, watching his brother and that Qin guy warmly discuss math problems. His molars were practically grinding from frustration.
“Brother, I’m going to play games.” Out of sight, out of mind—he couldn’t bear to watch anymore!
Fu Xingzhou looked up. “You finished your homework?”
Seeing his brother nod, he smiled and praised him, “Chuanchuan is amazing. If you’re done, go play.”
Shen Xinting brightened up and, before leaving, finally managed to give Qin a decent look.
After all, this was his brother’s friend. He couldn’t show too much hostility, or it might upset his brother.
With the third wheel gone, Fu Xingzhou scooted his chair closer with a sly grin to his Junjun “wife.”
“Junjun, my dear wife~” he called softly.
Qin Yanjun looked up at him. “What is it?”
“Hehe, nothing, I just wanted to call you.” Fu Xingzhou’s eyes curved into crescents. His wife was so good-looking—he never got tired of looking at Junjun. He really liked his Junjun wife.
He stared dreamily at Qin Yanjun’s face. Qin Yanjun, slightly flustered by the attention, pushed his head aside.
“Do your homework.”
Fu Xingzhou stared at his workbook with a silly smile. “Got it~”
After a while, Qin Yanjun finished his homework and turned to look. He noticed that Zhouzhou hadn’t written a single word for his language assignment and was instead helping Shen Yuexin’s cousin with math. His brows furrowed.
“Why haven’t you written your essay?” he asked.
Fu Xingzhou didn’t stop writing. “Oh, I’ll do it later. I’m working part-time right now—otherwise, I might not finish in time.”
“How many more assignments are left?”
“After Shen Yuexin’s cousin, there’s Chen-something’s language, someone’s science, and…” Fu Xingzhou counted on his fingers, listing over ten names. When he finished, he looked distressed.
“Junjun, I think I took on too many jobs…” he said pitifully.
There was no way he could finish all this homework before midnight QAQ.
Qin Yanjun sighed and took a few workbooks from Zhouzhou’s bag to help.
“Finish your own homework first. I’ll help you with the rest.”
“Junjun wife, you’re the best!” Fu Xingzhou leaned over and planted a kiss on his wife’s cheek.
Qin Yanjun, used to this, wiped the saliva off his cheek and began working on “1+3, 3+1.”
At nine o’clock, Fu Tingzhou came upstairs with some fruit and drinks for the two kids.
“Are you hungry? Should I cook some noodles for you?” Fu Tingzhou asked.
Fu Xingzhou shook his head, looking very well-behaved. “Daddy, no need. We’ll sleep after finishing our homework. Has Chuanchuan gone to bed?”
“Yes, he’s asleep.”
“Thank you, Uncle Fu,” Qin Yanjun said politely as he ate a slice of apple.
Fu Tingzhou smiled. “Keep working. Let me know if you’re hungry.”
“Okay.”
After their daddy left, Fu Xingzhou breathed a sigh of relief and quickly pulled out a second-grade language workbook from under his own.
“Zhouzhou, don’t help elementary school kids with their homework anymore. At that age, they should do their own.” Qin Yanjun frowned as he finished a math assignment.
“If you want to earn money, you can do something else.”
“But besides helping with homework, I can’t do anything else.” After being scolded by his wife, Fu Xingzhou looked a bit downhearted.
He knew it wasn’t good, but besides being slightly better at studying, he wasn’t good at anything else. Compared to his dad, daddy, and Chuanchuan, he was the least capable in the family.
“You know our family is very poor. Dad goes away for months to work, and Daddy has to work and take care of me and my brother every day. It’s really hard on them. Plus, I have to save money to marry my wife. If I don’t work hard from a young age, it won’t work out.”
“…” Qin Yanjun looked at him, perplexed. “What makes you think your family is poor?”
Fu Xingzhou was nearly in tears, rubbing his eyes. “Daddy told me!”
“Uncle Fu?” Qin Yanjun blinked.
“When did he tell you?”
Fu Xingzhou tilted his head, thinking. “Um, when I was two? No, wait, maybe three!”
Qin Yanjun: “…”
“Finish these, and no more elementary school jobs after this.” He patted Zhouzhou’s silly head. “You’re so good at drawing. You can earn money from your art in the future.”
“Really?” Fu Xingzhou looked up at his Junjun wife, long lashes glistening with a tear, looking both obedient and pitiful. He frowned. “But who would buy a child’s drawings?”
“I’ll help you.” The high-IQ Qin Yanjun smiled confidently, as if to say, “This is nothing.”
Fu Xingzhou cheered up, his eyes curving. “Okay! Junjun wife is the best. I believe in you!”
Qin Yanjun patted Zhouzhou’s head. “Good boy.”
The two kids worked until nearly eleven before finally finishing everything.
After his shower, Fu Xingzhou yawned and crawled into bed. “Junjun, I’m so sleepy.”
“Go to sleep. I’ll wake you up tomorrow,” Qin Yanjun said, tucking him in and patting his belly.
“Okay, Junjun, goodnight.” Fu Xingzhou was so sleepy he forgot his goodnight kiss. He closed his eyes and fell asleep immediately.
Qin Yanjun pursed his lips, feeling like something was missing. He turned to look at the sleeping Zhouzhou, and his eyes lit up in the dark.
He leaned over, kissed Zhouzhou’s cheek, and whispered contentedly, “Goodnight, Zhouzhou.”
Now he felt at ease.
A faint smile appeared on his lips as he held Zhouzhou’s hand and drifted off to sleep.
—
The next day.
“Junjun, why are you up so early?” Fu Xingzhou was making breakfast when he saw Qin Yanjun coming downstairs and was surprised.
“Mm, I’m taking Zhouzhou for a morning run,” Qin Yanjun said coolly, walking into the kitchen.
“Uncle Fu, need any help?”
Fu Tingzhou smiled. “No need. Go wake Zhouzhou. Breakfast will be ready by the time you get back.”
“Okay.” Qin Yanjun nodded but stayed to help pluck the vegetables before heading upstairs to wake Zhouzhou.
In the bedroom, Fu Xingzhou hugged the pillow his Junjun wife had slept on, rubbing against it unconsciously and mumbling something unintelligible.
Qin Yanjun leaned closer and caught a few words.
“Wife… kiss… money…”
His ears turned slightly red as he pressed his lips together, taking a step back. He hesitated before gently pushing his sleeping partner.
“Zhouzhou, time to wake up for the morning run.”
Fu Xingzhou: “Huff—”
“Zhouzhou, wake up.”
Fu Xingzhou: “Huff—”
Qin Yanjun frowned. This wouldn’t do. After a moment of hesitation, he used his trump card.
“Zhouzhou, if you don’t wake up, I’m going to remarry.”
“No way!” Fu Xingzhou shot up from the bed, wide-eyed.
“Junjun! I had a nightmare. Someone said you were going to remarry!” He grabbed his wife’s hand, frowning angrily. “They’re lying. You wouldn’t remarry, right?”
Qin Yanjun: “…No, I won’t remarry.”
With genes as excellent as his dads’, how could they have a silly child like Zhouzhou?
No, Zhouzhou wasn’t silly. He was excellent at studying, handicrafts, and especially drawing.
It wasn’t Zhouzhou who was different. Maybe it was him…
Qin Yanjun coughed lightly and urged, “Zhouzhou, change your clothes. Let’s go for a run.”
Fu Xingzhou clung to his blanket and scooted to the foot of the bed.
“Junjun, I’m still sleepy. Can I sleep a little longer? Just five more minutes, okay?” He held up five fingers.
Qin Yanjun’s cool face didn’t budge as he firmly refused. “No.”
Zhouzhou’s health was too poor. He needed to help Zhouzhou build his strength!
“Okay.” Fu Xingzhou obediently changed clothes and followed his Junjun wife outside for a run.
Ten minutes in, his legs turned to jelly.
“Junjun, can we take a break QAQ?” Fu Xingzhou leaned on his knees, looking pitifully at his wife.
“You can slow down, but no resting.” Qin Yanjun took his hand and walked slowly by the roadside. When the time was up, he squatted in front of Zhouzhou. “Zhouzhou, I’ll carry you back.”
Fu Xingzhou looked at his wife, who was half a head shorter than him, and hesitated.
He didn’t want to hurt Junjun’s confidence, but Junjun was so small he couldn’t carry him.
Sighs helplessly.jpg
“Junjun, I can do it. Let’s walk back.” He took his wife’s hand and patted his chest. “Uncle Liu said Zhouzhou needs to exercise more. If you carry me, that’s cheating!”
Qin Yanjun nodded. “Alright.”
The two little friends had just stepped out of the elevator, hand in hand, when they bumped into Shen Xinting, who was puffing his cheeks and sulking.
“Brother, why didn’t you call me when you went out for a run!” he demanded loudly, his red, teary eyes glaring at them.
Shen Xinting was utterly heartbroken. His brother had always doted on him, letting him pick the best food and toys first. When they were younger, his brother would take him out to play and always put him first in everything.
But whenever that Qin guy showed up, his position in his brother’s heart dropped to second place. They ate together, did homework together, and even slept together at night.
Why?! He was the real brother! He wanted to sleep with his brother too, QAQ.
“Brother, a wife can be divorced and remarried, but you only have one brother! Today, you must choose between us—Qin Yanjun or me!” He glared furiously at Qin, puffing up in anger.
My brother loves me the most, so he’ll definitely pick me. You’re about to get dumped by my brother—let’s see how smug you are after that!
Shen Xinting imagined his victory and smiled triumphantly.
However—
Fu Xingzhou, still holding his Junjun “wife’s” hand, didn’t hesitate for a second. “I choose Junjun.”
Shen Xinting: “!!”
“Wahhh—!”

Author’s Note:
After entering high school—
A classmate joked, “Fu Xingzhou, you’re so dumb! You can’t even handle something this simple.”
Fu Xingzhou snapped back fiercely, “You’re the dumb one! Your whole family is dumb! Dumb to death!”
Qin Yanjun: “Dumb Zhouzhou.”
Fu Xingzhou turned shy. blushes
