Slag Shou Cultivating Manual - Chapter 111
Chapter 111: Taming
Feeling that Rao Chen trusted him a bit more, He Lang carefully began, “If you persist in acting willfully, it won’t end well. You said you’d listen to me—so, are you willing to make some changes?”
Rao Chen frowned. His personality had always been like this: as long as no one provoked him and let him have peace, he wouldn’t be so violent. Besides, he was naturally laid-back. If he suddenly became docile, wouldn’t it arouse suspicion?
He Lang shook his head. “Tomorrow, I’ll move some equipment into your room. I’ll fabricate a story for the Rao family about disciplining you and punishing your rebellious behavior. You need to follow along, tone it down… Stop indiscriminately hurting others. Only when the Rao family feels reassured about you will you truly have a chance to leave.”
Currently, the Rao family was quite wary of Rao Chen. They needed to bide their time until the day when the Rao family, believing him to be thoroughly tamed, let their guard down. Only then would they have a chance to catch them off guard and overturn the situation.
Rao Chen was no immature teenager. He understood that this was the only path available to him in his current predicament.
Listening to He Lang thoughtfully consider every word for his sake, Rao Chen’s smile grew wider and more evident.
“I need a caretaker by my side. Would you take on that role?”
He Lang sighed helplessly. “Aren’t I already your caretaker?”
Rao Chen pursed his lips. It was true that He Lang cared for him, but only during working hours. Once his shift was over, he never stayed at the sanatorium overnight.
“Alright, then. This room is quite spacious, and there’s a caretaker’s bed nearby, convenient for round-the-clock care. Move in tonight.”
He Lang looked at him doubtfully, unable to figure out why this young master suddenly had such a whim.
Satisfied with his perplexed expression, Rao Chen nodded again. “What? You don’t want to? Then don’t talk about taking care of me or treating me well. You just want to get some robots to deal with me, don’t you?”
Frowning deeply, he expressed his disappointment and distrust.
Even though he could see Rao Chen’s intentional manipulation, He Lang had no choice but to grit his teeth and agree.
A month passed. Rao Chen enjoyed good food and drink, adjusted to life in the sanatorium, and was constantly attended to. He lived comfortably and didn’t lose his temper again. The sanatorium, once chaotic, entered a rare period of calm.
Outwardly, He Lang claimed it was the result of his treatment. In reality, he had figured out how to interact with Rao Chen.
He was genuinely kind to Rao Chen, and Rao Chen, being straightforward, responded well when approached gently. Even when He Lang reasoned with him, he would absorb some of it.
But that wasn’t all that surprised others.
That day, the duty room was abuzz with chatter.
“Unbelievable!”
“The young master of the Rao family smiled!”
“I delivered a glass of milk as instructed by the director. When I opened the door, I saw the young master holding the director’s hand, smiling!”
Everyone looked shocked and skeptical.
They had all delivered things to the young master during their shifts. Every time they saw him, he wore a dark, lifeless expression. His eyes were hollow and vacant; when he did look at people, it was with hostility and impatience. They were already relieved when he didn’t lash out—smiling was unimaginable.
Rumor had it that the Rao family demanded strict measures to discipline the young master. Who would’ve thought someone so unruly would respond so quickly?
“As expected of the director…” they sighed with mixed feelings.
Since the last incident, the Rao family had sent someone to check on Rao Chen almost daily. Now, with the image of Rao Chen appearing more subdued, He Lang suggested they stop visiting, arguing that if Rao Chen recognized them as family, he might become agitated, worsening his condition.
The emissaries, aware of the young master’s hostility toward them, seldom came afterward, relying on He Lang’s reports instead.
Seizing this opportunity, He Lang brought a chart of the Rao family’s connections to Rao Chen and asked him to identify potential allies.
“What do you think? Who could help you?”
The chart detailed not only the three generations of the Rao family but also connections on his mother’s side.
Currently isolated, Rao Chen had no leverage and could only look elsewhere for support.
The elders in the Rao family who held power trusted Yang Xuefei. Even if Rao Chen could prove his identity as an alpha, he wouldn’t easily gain access to them. Moreover, he wasn’t confident they would believe him, given his reputation for arrogance and unruliness.
After some thought, he hesitated and pointed to his uncle, Lu Yong.
Rao Chen’s mother came from a prestigious family. Though she distanced herself after marrying into the Rao family, Lu Yong occasionally visited during Rao Chen’s childhood.
However, as Rao Chen neared adulthood, Lu Yong seemed to believe it best for an omega like him to marry and settle down, tacitly endorsing the Rao family’s restrictions.
Still, Rao Chen had no better choice. Memories of his uncle’s care in his childhood gave him hope to try.
Importantly, Lu Yong was a classic alpha, enabling him to lead the Lu family as its patriarch. While not as prominent as the Rao family, the Lu family controlled several key territories with ample resources and manpower. If Lu Yong extended his support, Rao Chen could quickly establish himself.
Having prepared contacts and addresses in advance, He Lang handed Rao Chen a vial of a transparent liquid.
“This contains active enzymes that will dissolve the omega pheromones in your body. Over time, your metabolism will naturally produce alpha pheromones.”
Rao Chen studied He Lang’s expression and the mysterious vial, hesitating for a moment before drinking it.
A few days later, with alpha pheromones emanating from Rao Chen, He Lang sent him out early in the morning before staff arrived.
It was Rao Chen’s first time leaving the sanatorium in ages, and though burdened with responsibility, he felt more excitement than nervousness.
Without looking back, he departed.
He Lang watched his figure fade into the distance, feeling that this step marked Rao Chen’s emergence from captivity and the start of a new chapter.
Given his determined and ruthless nature, driven by vengeance, what he wanted seemed inevitable. All he needed was opportunity and growth.
As the evening approached, He Lang waited at the rear entrance.
The day’s staff had left, and the night shift had gone to eat and rest, leaving He Lang standing alone.
He waited patiently, contemplating various possibilities, until a shadow appeared.
He Lang took a deep breath, stretching his stiff legs, and smiled at the figure. “You’re back?”
Rao Chen nodded, glancing at He Lang’s legs. “You’ve been waiting this whole time?”
Caught off guard, He Lang nodded hesitantly, surprised by the unfamiliar warmth in Rao Chen’s voice.
A subtle, unexpected softness gleamed in Rao Chen’s eyes, a rare expression of gratitude and comfort.
He hadn’t anticipated He Lang waiting for him, given their current relationship was merely cooperative.
Yet, seeing him there stirred a flicker of joy, a sense of being cared for that he hadn’t felt in a long time.
Bending down, Rao Chen began massaging He Lang’s legs, softly scolding, “Why didn’t you wait inside? Couldn’t you shift your weight? Some doctor you are, so careless.”
The unexpected intimacy made He Lang freeze briefly before quickly adjusting. He pulled Rao Chen up and got to the point.
“How did it go? Does your uncle believe you?”
“No—” He Lang tensed instantly, gripping Rao Chen’s arm in concern.
Rao Chen chuckled, patting He Lang’s hand lightly. “Not only does he believe me, but he also promised to help me take over the Rao family entirely.”
When Rao Chen, now an alpha, approached Lu Yong, the Lu family was thrown into turmoil.
Though Rao Chen didn’t bear the Lu surname, he carried their bloodline. His unjust treatment by the Rao family was a disgrace to the Lu family.
Enraged, Lu Yong wanted to bring him back immediately, but Rao Chen firmly declined.
Explaining He Lang’s plan to bide time and catch their enemies off guard, Rao Chen convinced Lu Yong. Returning to the Lu family would only draw attention, potentially inviting retaliation from Yang Xuefei and Rao Feng, who would eliminate him before he gained power.
Though Lu Yong reluctantly agreed, he promised to mentor Rao Chen and help him navigate the world.
He Lang felt relieved. With Rao Chen busy learning, he had more free time and visibly relaxed.
Noticing this, Rao Chen asked skeptically, “You seem happy?”
He Lang composed himself, shaking his head earnestly. “No, I’m just glad you’ll be learning new things.”
Satisfied, Rao Chen nodded proudly, coughing lightly into his fist as he left with a parting remark: “I’ll be back early.”
