- Who would put a green hat on themselves?
- Chapter 19 - The Gentleman Does Not Rise
The man’s gaze burned as he looked at Yun Yue’s lips. His clear, untainted eyes betrayed his most primal desire.
He wanted to kiss her, but a voice inside him held him back.
“I need to kiss her while she’s conscious, otherwise, she won’t remember. It will only be me who remembers…” the man murmured, a hint of pain flickering in his eyes.
“Yue Yue is a little liar. She promised she wouldn’t forget me, but it happened again and again…” His voice carried a sense of grievance as he poked her cheek repeatedly.
He held her for a long time, not in a hurry to report to Yun Qing.
At the third quarter of the Shen hour, the clear blue sky began to change. The sun was setting, hiding its face, and the sky shifted from blue to orange. The clouds were tinged with the colors of twilight, creating a picturesque scene. The evening mist rose, veiling the light, and the sunset cast a divine glow on Yun Yue’s small face, making it breathtakingly beautiful.
Bang—
A red firework suddenly exploded in the twilight.
It was Yun Qing’s signal flare. It seemed that Yun Qing had finally figured out Yun Yue’s intentions and had come out of the city in pursuit.
He had seen through all their deception. It was as if he and Yun Yue were star-crossed lovers, fleeing the city together!
But this was where it stopped.
The man licked his lips regretfully, reluctantly burying his face in Yun Yue’s neck, gently inhaling her scent.
She had a faint, indescribable fragrance, like morning jasmine, subtly enticing under the influence of wind and dew.
After a few breaths, the man covered his face again, taking out a signal flare and lighting it with a fire stick.
The firework shot up into the sky, green in color. The stars were starting to appear, and the green firework looked like a blob of gray smoke against the darkening sky.
Soon after the firework ascended, the sound of horse hooves approached, accompanied by the man’s fierce voice.
“Go!”
“Stop!”
It was Yun Qing.
Even from a distance, his face looked as dark as the bottom of a blackened pan.
The horse, named Tengxing, was entirely black except for its white snip on the nose. It seemed like a shooting star in the night, speeding up and stopping abruptly next to the man and Yun Yue.
Yun Qing looked at Xiao Si with a scowl, his expression almost twisted.
He dismounted and strode towards them, extending his hands with a menacing air, as if he would break the man’s arms if he didn’t let go.
“Why so fierce? You know very well that I’m incapable! No matter how beautiful a woman is, I can’t…” The man’s words carried a tone of provocation.
Praising a rival’s intended conquest in front of a rival was nothing but a challenge.
But it was true; Yun Qing, when taking Yun Yue, glanced inadvertently at Xiao Si’s lower half. Despite having the beauty in his arms, he remained unmoved.
This was not a true gentleman; he was impotent.
“Where are you going?” Yun Qing asked, lifting Yun Yue onto his horse.
Without a word, Yun Qing spurred his horse and rode away.
“Hey!” Xiao Si was left speechless.
He had known Yun Qing for most of his life, and the man had always been cold and annoying. Over the years, his annoyance seemed to have only increased!
Xiao Si leaped into the air, soaring three zhang high, his feet touching the treetops as he pursued Yun Qing’s horse, cursing Yun Qing’s ancestors along the way. He added, “The Yun family are all fools, except for Yue Yue.”
Along the way, Xiao Si kicked the donkey lying in the grass, saying, “If you don’t get up, I’ll let the wolves eat you.”
Xiao Si was able to find Yun Yue so quickly because he had set a trap for her. The dumb donkey, called Luobo Jing, had been smeared with a special scent to make tracking easier.
However, this donkey was a troublemaker, only responding to carrots and was very clever. It had been rolling on the ground but quickly stood up and followed Xiao Si upon hearing it might be fed to wolves.
Though the donkey was short and round, it ran surprisingly fast. If Yun Yue had been awake, seeing the donkey’s clumsy trot would likely have made her furious.
Tengxing was a fine steed; even the slightest distraction would have caused it to disappear, but Xiao Si’s tracking skills kept him on Yun Qing’s trail.
Near the Yin family’s ferry crossing in the suburbs of the capital, there was a small mountain called Lianfang Mountain. The mountain was not high and was remote. Halfway up the mountain was a courtyard with a square layout, surrounded by tall, old trees that shrouded the courtyard, adding a touch of eerie ambiance.
When Xiao Si arrived at the courtyard, it was as quiet as a deserted town, with only the main hall lit up, seemingly inviting him inside.
AN – Yun Qing: I don’t believe in gentlemen, only in those who are impotent.
Someone: Boo-hoo, I’m impotent…
