My Heart Breaks For The Gentle Second Male Lead Chapter 6: Performance

The instructor waved his hand, declining his assistance.

Standing up, the instructor brushed the grass off his body and asked Fang Jue with some surprise, “Have you received training before?”

Fang Jue stood to the side with his hands down, honestly answering, “I’ve just learned some basic self-defense.”

The instructor gave him an appreciative look. “You react pretty quickly.”

Thinking about the shoulder throw he had just given the instructor, Fang Jue wasn’t sure if the instructor’s comment was a compliment or criticism. He awkwardly apologized, “Are you sure you’re okay, Instructor?”

The instructor chuckled and reassured him, “I’m fine. I’ve experienced much worse during military training. Your little reaction is nothing compared to that. You don’t need to worry that I’ll eat you up or something.”

Fang Jue finally relaxed.

To prevent any further mishaps during the demonstration, the instructor allowed Fang Jue to step aside, asking another student to take his place.

After apologizing once again, Fang Jue returned to his seat. As soon as he sat down, Shen Liu approached him excitedly and said, “Bro, I didn’t expect you to hide such skills! Your forum reputation is now even more solid!”

Fang Jue covered his face in embarrassment, urging Shen Liu to stop.

Of course, the incident of him throwing the instructor wouldn’t end here.

His dear roommates also learned about it. While Yan Yunli wasn’t particularly interested in these matters, Li Mingyu and Xie Yan described the incident with vivid details. Li Mingyu couldn’t resist making fun of him.

“Hey, Fang Jue, let me read you some of the comments people made.”

“Oh, did you all see Fang Jue’s move? It was like a flowing river, so smooth and clean. I admit, as a guy, I was charmed.”

“The instructor said, ‘I was shocked. Your reaction was impressive.'”

“Don’t worry, none of the instructors were harmed in this incident.”

Fang Jue wanted to shut them up. Li Mingyu was about to continue when Yan Yunli suddenly stood up and asked, “I want to go for a walk. Would you like to join me?”

Fang Jue was relieved to have a reason to escape the teasing in the dorm. He quickly agreed, saying, “Sure, let’s go together!”

Li Mingyu, in his typical playful manner, chimed in, “Are you leaving us behind for a romantic stroll? You’re so heartless.”

Fang Jue gave his friends a playful look before closing the door. He pushed Yan Yunli toward the staircase, saying, “Let’s go quickly!”

Li Mingyu continued to tease, “Leaving us for some quality time together? So ruthless!”

Fang Jue and Yan Yunli made their escape from the teasing environment. As they walked, Fang Jue sighed in relief.

In no time, they reached the end of the military training, and the evening was dedicated to performances. Students had prepared various talents and acts to entertain their peers.

Some had prepared in advance, while others spontaneously decided to participate. The audience sat on the ground, using their phone flashlights as makeshift glow sticks, creating an electrifying atmosphere.

During the day, the instructors had mentioned the performance schedule, and everyone had brought their phones for this event. The instructors were less strict during these evening performances.

Fang Jue watched a couple of acts and then decided to send a message to Yan Yunli, who had likely not seen his earlier message due to the performances.

【I’ll come find you in a bit.】

After a few minutes with no response, Fang Jue realized that Yan Yunli might not have checked his phone.

Normally, during training, they didn’t use their phones much. Fang Jue knew that Yan Yunli wasn’t the type to engage in social interactions, and he might be uncomfortable with people approaching him to exchange contact information.

Seizing this opportunity, Fang Jue decided to discreetly leave and find Yan Yunli, knowing the instructors wouldn’t pay much attention to individual movements at this time.

Fang Jue quietly left the performance area and headed toward Yan Yunli’s training group on the other side of the training ground. However, the darkness and the crowd made it challenging to identify individuals.

Fang Jue, feeling like a secret agent on a covert mission, searched for Yan Yunli among the sea of students. He didn’t realize that his presence had already caught the attention of others.

At this point, the instructor in charge of the performances was scanning the crowd, looking for volunteers. When he noticed Fang Jue standing at the back, he beckoned him forward, thinking Fang Jue might want to perform.

Fang Jue was grabbed and brought to the front, hesitating and trying to deny it. However, the instructor encouraged him, assuming he was just shy.

The instructor wasn’t familiar with every student, given the large numbers, so he didn’t recognize Fang Jue. He assured him, “Don’t be shy. Just perform something simple. Everyone is supportive here. What do you say, folks?”

The crowd turned its attention to Fang Jue. Some clapped their hands in encouragement, while others nodded

and smiled. Fang Jue found himself unable to back out now, so he decided to go along with it.

He chose to sing a popular romantic song, and as he began singing, the audience started swaying their phone flashlights to the rhythm, creating a beautiful and supportive atmosphere. By the time he finished, many people were applauding and cheering.

Fang Jue thanked everyone and quickly retreated, not noticing the impressed reactions of those around him.

Afterward, he rejoined Yan Yunli, who had remained quietly in his group. Fang Jue had just asked if anyone had approached him for his WeChat when he realized that Yan Yunli might not have checked his phone due to the performances.

Yan Yunli confirmed that someone had indeed asked for his WeChat but shared that he had declined the request. Fang Jue was surprised but praised him for handling the situation well.

As they headed back to their dorm together, Fang Jue couldn’t help but wonder how Yan Yunli perceived him. He couldn’t tell him that he had teased him about being a wingman. Instead, he decided to play it cool.

Yan Yunli, noticing Fang Jue’s odd compliments, questioned him. Fang Jue, not wanting to reveal his teasing, nervously responded, “No, it’s genuinely great!”

Yan Yunli still seemed unsure, so Fang Jue quickly changed the topic and suggested they watch the remaining performances. Yan Yunli went along with it, and they focused on the acts on stage.

When the performances concluded, they returned to their dorm. Upon entering, Fang Jue noticed his roommates, Xie Yan and Li Mingyu, wearing mischievous expressions.

Li Mingyu chimed in, “So, how was your date tonight, you two?”

Fang Jue glanced at Li Mingyu’s phone screen, which was displaying a forum page. Without any expression on his face, he promptly closed the door, grabbed Yan Yunli, and said, “Let’s go for another walk.”

Without waiting for a response, they left the room. Fang Jue was not in the mood for Li Mingyu’s teasing.

Military training was ending, and Fang Jue and Yan Yunli continued their evening stroll.
